Job 3.222.0489/90 NOAA Date Nov 30, 2004 Subject Addendum to Maintenance and Instruction Manual Nr. IMR/2037/PF - REV. 0.

1. SHIPMENT

THE TANDEM MOTOR SET ASSEMBLY WITH THE RELEVANT BEDPLATE WILL BE SHIPPED AS

ONE ITEM.

THE ROTORS WILL BE AXIALLY AND RADIALLY LOCATED BY ADEQUATE ROPES AND A TOOL

TO LOCK THE COUPLING FLANGE POSITION. THE COOLERS ARE REMOVED FOR SHIPPING.

TO HANDLE THIS PACKAGE A SPECIAL LIFTING BEAM HAS BEEN DESIGNED. THIS BEAM

MUST BE USED FOR LIFTING OF THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY.

WARNING

SKILLED PERSONELL SHOULD BE USED FOR COMMANDING THE MOBILE CRANE AT SITE.

ALL THE SAFETY RULES MUST BE APPLIED WHEN THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY WILL BE MANAGED.

2. POSITIONING OF THE MOTOR-BEDPLATE ASSEMBLY IN THE

VESSEL

THE POSITIONS OF TWO MOTOR STATORS AND ALL THE 4 BEARINGS HAVE ALREADY BEEN

VERIFIED AT ASIRobicon MOTOR FACTORY.

THE STATORS AND THE BEARING PEDESTALS HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY SHIMMED AND DOWEL

PINS INDICATE THE RELEVANT POSITIONS.

CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN THE MOTOR BEDPLATE IS SET IN THE VESSEL TO

GUARANTEE DISTORSION-FREE MOUNTING (SOFT FOOT MOUNTING TECHNIQUE IS

RECOMMENDED).

3. ALIGNEMENT

THE MOTOR BEARINGS HAVE NO AXIAL THRUST CAPABILITY.

THE AXIAL THRUST DUE TO THE STATIC AND DYNAMIC VESELL INCLINATIONS ARE

CARRIED BY THE PROPELLER THRUST BLOCK (BY OTHERS) WHICH MUST OPERATE WHENEVER

THE MOTORS ARE RUN BOTH AT NO LOAD AND ON LOAD CONDITIONS.

ROTOR MAGNETIC CENTRE IS CLEARLY SHOWN BY A MARK ONTO THE SHAFT.

THE ALIGNEMENT OF THE ROTOR WITH THE SHAFT LINE HAVE TO CONSIDER THE VERTICAL

ELONGATION OF THE SHAFT DUE TO THE THERMAL EFFECT (NAMELY 0.13 mm).

4. END FLOATS

ROTOR END FLOAT: ± 3 mm

THRUST BLOCK END FLOAT: ± 0.5 mm (BY OTHERS)

THIS WILL GUARANTEE THE PROPULSION MOTOR BEARINGS NOT TO RECIEVE ANY AXIAL

THRUST.

MOTOR ROTOR HORIZONTAL ELONGATION IS PERMITTED BY THE JOURNAL BEARINGS.

5. BEARINGS

BEARINGS LAY-OUT SCHEMATIC.

BEARINGS ARE NOT IDENTICAL. LEGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS :

6. BEARING LUBE OIL JACKING PUMPS

EACH SUPPORT IS PROVIDED WITH A LUBE OIL SYSTEM WHICH ALLOWS THE PROPER WORKING OF

THE ROTOR BEARING WHILE THE MACHINE IS RUNNING AT LOW SPEEDS BELOW APPROXIMATELY

20 RPM. THE BEARINGS ARE SELF-LUBRICATING AT HIGHER SHAFT SPEEDS.

EACH JACKING PUMP STATION IS LOCATED NEAR THE PEDESTAL BEARING MACHINE, ON THE

SIDE, AND IS CONNECTED TO THE BEARING BY MEANS OF FLEXIBLE PIPES; IT USES THE SAME LUBRICATING OIL CONTAINED INSIDE THE BEARING SUPPORT (REFER TO OVERALL DIMENSIONS

DRAWING).

THE SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM, THE CHARACTERISTIC DATA AND FURTHER DETAILS OF THE LUBE OIL

SYSTEM ARE DETAILED IN THE RELEVANT INSTRUCTION MANUAL.

OPERATION OF THE JACKING PUMPS

RUNNING THE LUBE OIL PUMPS IS REQUIRED IN FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

- PROLONGED TURNING OF THE ROTOR AT LOW SPEED BELOW APPROX. 20 RPM;

- CONTINUOUS SLOW ROTATION OF THE ROTOR;

- DISCONTINUOUS OPERATION (REPEATED STOPPING AND STARTING OF THE MACHINE);

- REVERSIBLE OPERATION;

- PROPELLER TURNING AT VERY LOW REVOLUTION WITH SEA CURRENT.

CAUTION

FAILURE IN THE OPERATING THE LUBE OIL JACKING SYSTEM PUMPS IN THE ABOVE CONDITIONS

MAY RESULT IN HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.

7. BEARING LUBE OIL

TYPE: ISO VG 150

OIL MUST BE:

MINERAL BASED TURBINE OIL INHIBITED AGAINST OXIDATION, CORROSION AND FOAMING, WITH

AN ISO VISCOSITY GRADE AS INDICATED ABOVE.

Genflex Rubber Mountings (B & HD)

Genflex mountings employ the well proven inclined rubber element design to achieve much higher deflections compared to simple rubber in compression devices and therefore superior isolation of low frequency vibration. The pure rubber design offers excellent performance in the audible frequency range which cannot be achieved with helical steel springs even with so called \"noise stop pads\". Natural rubber also offers inherent damping to control transient motion resulting from machine start up, run down and fault conditions. For marine and mobile applications, a combined overload and rebound buffer is available in both medium and high deflection variants.

Design Features:

First grade natural rubber to metal bonded rectangular elements inclined to achieve maximum load and deflection using a combination of compression and shear loading.

High Strength SG iron castings to BS2789 grade EN-GJS-400/15.

Rubber elements effectively protected against oil contamination by the extended skirt design of the top casting.

Two different horizontal stiffness axes enable optimum system characteristics and vibration isolation to be achieved using careful orientation of the mountings.

Marine/Mobile version available with combined overload and rebound buffer.

A ribbed rubber seating pad is available obviating the need for costly HD bolts for many industrial applications.

Typical Applications:

Marine propulsion engines Diesel Generating sets Engine test beds Lift motor gear Chillers & Cooling Towers Large fans & AHU\'s Pumps & compressors Vibrating screens and hoppers

Notes

This arrangement of mountings used the type Genflex Marine HD (10.013).

Two mountings are rotated 90 degrees about the vertical axis to provide equal stiffness in each direction. The transverse spacing = 1681 mm.

This provides good control of response to ship motion whilst allowing only two natural frequencies to be above half the lowest running speed.
