About this file

This is a landscape design and planting specification document prepared by the City of Tampa Parks, Recreation & Conservation Department for the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) E. 12th Avenue Sidewalk Tree Planting project. The project involves furnishing and installing trees along E. 12th Street between N. 15th Street and N. 17th Street in Tampa, Florida. The work requires planting 11 total trees consisting of 5 Simpson Stoppers (Myrcianthes fragrans) at Grade #1, single leader, standard size with 1.3-1.5 inch caliper and 7 feet or greater height, and 6 White Geigers (Codria boissieri) at Grade #1, single leader, standard size with 1.5-2 inch caliper and 8 feet or greater height. The specifications include detailed planting methods, tree staking requirements, mulching with 'Florimulch' or equivalent at 2 bags per tree, and a 180-day establishment and maintenance period with specific watering schedules, hand watering by truck three times per week for the first four weeks, then two times per week through week 26, followed by continuation through week 52. Trees must be protected with 10-foot setbacks where invasive Chinese Tallow trees require removal, and all proposed trees must be planted a minimum of 12 inches from property lines with a 10-foot tree protection zone maintained for the 23-inch Live Oak already present on site.

The contractor is responsible for verifying all site conditions, quantities, and underground utility locations before pricing the work, with any utility damages due to contractor negligence to be repaired at the contractor's expense. All plant material must conform to Florida Grade No. 1 or better per the Division of Plant Industry standards and current American Association of Nurseryman standards, with plants guaranteed to be healthy and in flourishing condition for one year from final inspection and acceptance. The contractor must provide photo submittals of all plant material for City Representative approval prior to installation and shall handle all necessary permits, final site cleanup, and removal of surplus materials. A one-year plant establishment and maintenance guarantee is required, with the contractor bearing responsibility for proper surface drainage, tree straightening during the warranty period, and adherence to all specified pruning, fertilizing, weeding, litter removal, and mulching requirements throughout the entire maintenance contract period.
