QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Question #1 How do we bid this portion if we cannot obtain pricing? A review by ABS Houston office is anticipated. Update of the two drawings (135-S12-1-1 REV C and 135-S12-1-2 REV A), which were just reviewed and approved by ABS at a cost of $3,000.00, will be required. As the revision only applies to the relocation of two of the bitts it is anticipated that the cost should be much less than this. Contractor’s naval architect should be able to provide a good estimate.
During our ship check, the mooring bits to be removed at frame #76 P&S are located over sewage tanks that were just cleaned, and according to the Chief, are never used. The problem is that during the recent drydocking the stern tube lube oil piping that was replaced developed a leak in the port compartment and the tank is contaminated with oil. The yard is suppose to fix it under warranty, but is waiting until the oil arrives from Japan.
Question #2 How will this issue be resolved? The oil in the after peak tank is approximately 5 gallons of “environmentally acceptable lubricant”, Kemel ST-83A, for the stern tube. The oil is in the tank due to a defect in workmanship by the drydock contractor who has been put on notice to affect tank cleaning and repairs to the oil piping. It is anticipated that this will be accomplished prior to commencement of this work.
