MT STILLWATER 207(1)
West Rosebud Creek Road Reconstruction
# General Technical Question Answer Date
1 x Please indicate if contractor can continue to let the public use the existing bridge while contractor is building the new bridge. This includes removing a few of the existing precast concrete abutments on the southeast side that overlap where the right side of the new bridge is going.
Yes, they can keep the existing bridge open, but need to submit shop drawings according to 104.03(b)(2)(g) for Partial or
Full removal of structural bridge elements.

2 x In addition, on sheet G.2, it appears that
Abutment #1 encroaches onto the existing roadway approx. 5’‐6’. This will affect the existing roadway and traffic attempting to cross the existing bridge. As excavation will happen for the abutment, it appears that shoring will be needed out on the roadway and traffic will be reduced to single lane here. Is this correct?
The intent is to use the existing bridge while construction the new one. The contractor will have to include adequate traffic control to assure public safety and will have to take necessary precautions to assure stability of the roadway and existing bridge.

3 x The Notice to Bidders on sheet A‐1 indicates that Carl’s Pit is a commercial source available for the project. Does this pit meet all the requirements of (SCR)105.02(c)?, specifically, the weed free certification requirement?
Subsection 105.02(c) items (1) through (6) do not apply to commercial sources that meet the described requirements. Bidders need to determine whether material sources meet the weed free requirement.

5 x 1.) Can on‐site rocks be approved for riprap?
2.) Sheet D.1 shows the roadway quantities, including the unclassified borrow (37,362 Tons).
What portion of this would need to be screened to 6” Minus?
3.) The specifications list Carl’s pit as a commercially available pit. Is there an alternate source available? What stipulations would be necessary to have an alternate borrow source approved?
1.) See Subsection 105.05. Provide riprap meeting the requirements of 705.02.
2.) The portion that is used in the top 12 inches of the embankment. See 204.10.
3.) It is up to bidders to select their material sources. See Section 105 regarding material source approval.
