Questions Answers
1 Pay Item No. 15210-1000 Centerline, Staking – Will this item be staked before Finish Grade Stakes or after the contractor installs the final base layer, before asphalt is installed. Or will the centerline be staked after asphalt is installed to help with stripping?
Per FP section 152.05, work must be performed as necessary to construct the work. It is anticipated that the Centerline Staking is utilized throughout the project for reference purposes and for multiple construction operations, including but not limited to: aggregate base, asphalt, and striping placement.
2 Pay Item No. 15216-2000 Survey and Staking, Grade Finish Stakes, and Sheet E-13 Section 152. E-13 states that Blue Tops will be provided at a multiple of stations. Does this mean we will stake
Finish Grade Stakes only one time – between the final layer of road base and asphalt, or will we need to stake them twice, once on exist road way to get final road base layer, and at the final road base layer right before paving operations?
In roadway segments where Blue Top data is provided, the roadway was previously constructed up thru the aggregate base section or Blue Top elevation. In anticipation of aggregate base loss due to weathering and maintenance, it is anticipated that re-establishment of the Blue Top design is required, including placement of approximately 1-2 inches of new aggregate base (refer to Typical Section A Sheets). Given that subgrade is already established and covered by aggregate base (by previous construction), the requirement to stake the top of subgrade, per
FP 152.05 (f) (2), is not required; however, per FP 152.05 (f) (2), reset grade finishing stakes as many times as necessary to construct the aggregate course does apply.
