DTFH68-14-B-00018 Revised 11/5/14
CA FTNP YOSE PRES 1(14)
Yosemite NP Tunnel Preservation
11/4/14
QUESTION #1
The specifications call for concrete repairs and patching to be performed in line with product manufacturers recommendations. This poses an issue with ambient air temperature requirements for application and the expected ambient air temperature onsite during the contract performance period. We expect the temperatures will be well below 40 degrees for the duration of the project. Will the government allow for application of these products outside the manufacturers requirements?
Response: No, as per Subsection 106.01 “Incorporate manufactured materials into the work according to the manufacturer’s recommendations or to these specifications, whichever is more strict.”
QUESTION #2
There is a requirement to separate the work area from traffic using plywood barrier during construction. Will this barrier be required when working at height or just a 4’ tall barrier along the work area?
Response: As per Subsection 551.11 (g)(1) the temporary protective covers are required over walkways and at points of entrance and exit for people and vehicles during the tunnel concrete lining repair/rehabilitation work to protect from injury and or damage resulting from the concrete rehabilitation work.
QUESTION #3
Section view on sheet 605-B shows the 3” core going from the drainage trench into the pavement section. The drainage ditch is only 18” wide which is not enough room to setup a core drill machine. Is the intent to cut a section of pavement and excavate down to the core and drill from the road side of the curb?
Response: The intent is not to remove any concrete pavement adjacent to the proposed weep holes. See plan sheet Special 605-B.
