About this file
This is a snow and ice removal brochure and informational document from the City of New Haven Department of Public Works in Connecticut, which serves as supplementary material for the FY 26-27 New Haven Public Schools Snow Removal/Control and Ice Treatment/Control contract opportunity for Zone 3. The brochure provides context on snow and ice management services within New Haven, noting that the Department of Public Works maintains 234 miles of roadway and typically uses approximately 2,000 tons of sand and salt annually during Connecticut winters. The related contract opportunity seeks on-call vendor(s) to provide snow plowing equipment and qualified operators for removal and ice treatment on school district driveways, parking lots, and walkways across all facilities within Zone 3 during the 2026-2027 season. Contractors may submit proposals for one or multiple zones but must demonstrate sufficient equipment and staff capacity to service all zones for which they apply, with equipment lists required in Appendix A.
The brochure establishes the regulatory and operational environment for snow removal services in New Haven by detailing local ordinances governing property owner responsibilities for snow removal within 42 inches of their property within 24 hours after storms, with fines of $100 per day for violations. The document clarifies that the Department of Public Works and Parks Department maintain sidewalks on vacant city-owned lots, while the Connecticut Department of Transportation manages state roadways. The brochure emphasizes the importance of compliant snow removal practices and establishes that New Haven utilizes both municipal resources and local contractor services to maintain community safety during winter weather events.
