About this file

This is a technical specifications document from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) detailing requirements for four categories of heavy-duty trucks: Class 8 trucks (35,000 GVWR), tandem axle trucks (50-70,000 GVWR), truck tractors (90,000 GCWR), and heavy hauling truck tractors (140,000 GCWR). The specifications are extremely detailed, covering trucks that will be used for dump truck operations, snow removal, equipment hauling, and construction material transport. The Class 8 trucks will accommodate dump bodies, snow plows, salt spreaders, and various flatbed configurations. The tandem axle trucks will be used for hauling construction materials and snow removal with 12-foot plows and salt spreaders. The 90,000 GCWR tractors are specified in two variants - an over-the-road version for parts/supply transport and an on/off-road version for hauling construction equipment. The 140,000 GCWR tractor is designed specifically for heavy equipment transport.

The specifications detail comprehensive technical requirements including engine specifications, transmission options, axle configurations, brake systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, cab features, and safety equipment. Key requirements include minimum engine horsepower ratings from 300-500 HP, automated manual or automatic transmissions, air ride suspensions, full air disc brakes, and extensive snow removal equipment provisions where applicable. All vehicles must meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, OSHA requirements, and include telematics/GPS capabilities compatible with ATT/Geotab systems. No pricing information or contract terms are included in this technical specification document.

35K GVWR

Vendor:_______________________________________
Truck, Cab & Chassis, Diesel Engine Powered, 35,000 GVWR
General: NCDOT will typically use this chassis in 3 applications. First application will be used as a dump truck. It will be hauling different types of construction material such as rock, dirt, sand, as well as pulling trailers to haul construction equipment such as compact excavators and track loaders to do smaller road maintenance projects. The Second application will be used as a snow plow truck which accommodate a 10' snow plow as well as a 5 Cubic Yard in-body salt spreader for treating Highways as well as secondary roads with salt and brine. The Third application will accommodate 10', 12', and 16' Flat Beds. These beds will be either stationary beds or a dump style beds and will carry material such as mulch and dirt. This specification is intended to describe a straight truck with, conventional single cab and crew cab. The warranty shall also include coverage of these units in typical snow removal operation.
