Facilita5ng Group Par5cipa5on – a Blended E-Learning 7 Module Program
Why the program was created: We believe: what people help to create, they support and an organizaPon’s ability to engage its members (employees) contributes to the success of the organizaPon. This course explores a variety of techniques that can be used to implement those two concepts in meePngs. During this course the parPcipants, Learn, Reflect, PracPce and Reflect Again on the concepts and pracPces in this course.
Summary of program: This 7-module program consists of 3 parts. Required reading in a provided textbook, Facilitator’s Guide to ParPcipatory Decision-Making, by Sam Kaner, online discussions in the trainer-hosted Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) system, and live zoom meePngs to pracPce the concepts learned with feedback from the trainer. Zoom meePngs are recorded for those that cannot aiend live. It is recommended that the students of this course meet weekly extending for a 7-week program but can be adjusted to a shorter or longer schedule.
Method of delivery: Each week a new module on the Canvas LMS is “released”. ParPcipants are instructed as to what pages to read in the textbook. There are addiPonal learning materials in each module on the LMS, over and above the concepts in the textbook. Within the LMS, parPcipants are given discussion quesPons and scenarios in which to dig deeper into these concepts. They are asked quesPons like, when have you experienced a situaPon like this, how would you modify this process for your group, and/or what areas do you feel you need to work on the most? ParPcipants post their own responses and then respond to others’ answers. The trainers ask addiPonal probing quesPons and give feedback within the LMS system. Each week we have a 90-minute zoom meePng to experience the concepts from that module. In addiPon to reinforcing the concepts in the module, they are also learning some online facilitaPng skills and tools. Zoom meePngs are recorded for those who cannot aiend the live meePng.
There is a pre-course assessment, post-course assessment, and post-course knowledge check.
CerPficates are issued. This course is also approved by the NaPonal Commission for Health EducaPon CredenPalling for 23 contact hours.
