About this file
This is a technical specification document for the State of Iowa Department of Transportation detailing radiant baseboard heater replacement work at the Atlantic Maintenance Garage office located at 502 Ash Street in Atlantic, Iowa. The project involves replacing existing Weil-McLain Model 75 WL-3 baseboard heaters with new units of equivalent specifications, while retaining the existing hydronic hot water boiler system. The heating system is zoned separately for first and second floors. All work must be completed during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The contractor is responsible for proper debris disposal, disconnection and abandonment of existing heaters, standard yearly maintenance on the boiler and piping system, and onsite operator training for Iowa DOT personnel on the new heating system operations and maintenance requirements.
Manufacturer-required clearances must be maintained around all heater installations, including 12 inches in front, 6 inches on either sides, and 12 inches above each unit, with the Iowa DOT responsible for moving furniture and equipment to accommodate these specifications or stricter manufacturer requirements. The existing boiler, which was replaced within the last few years, is to remain in service. Current heaters have been removed and require contractor confirmation of proper disconnection and abandonment. The specification document references a related state and local contract opportunity with a proposal deadline of July 17, 2026, though additional procurement details regarding pricing, evaluation criteria, and contract terms are not provided in this technical specification.
