D.1. PRESERVATION, PACKAGING, AND PACKING
The contractor must provide preservation, packaging and packing on all system packaging and containers.
The following information is applicable to all containers.
a) All items must be individually packaged to the minimum requirements of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D3951-10. Standard Practices for commercial packaging are encouraged unless it is shown that commercial packaging cannot provide adequate protection and preservation. Common hardware items may be packaged in multiple unit pack quantities compatible with the Unit of Issue (UI) or Quantity per Unit Pack (QUP). BULK QUANTITIES
ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. RETAIL PACKAGING PRACTICES ARE NOT
ACCEPTABLE.
b) Items subject to damage by electromagnetic and electrostatic field forces must be initially wrapped in material conforming to MIL-PRF-81705E (1), Type III. ESD intermediate and exterior containers must be marked with the yellow and black ESD label IAW current standard of
MIL-STD-129R.
c) Packaging and marking for Hazardous materials must comply with applicable requirements for
Performance Oriented Packaging contained in the International Air Transport Association (IATA)
Dangerous Goods Regulations or the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) and with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 29, Title 40 and Title 49.
d) Unless specifically exempt in the contract or solicitation, the following identification information must be marked using current standard of MIL-STD-129R.
a. Assemblies, modules and equipment must be marked with a serial number to serve as a unique identifier.
e) Labels must include the following specifications from MIL-STD-129R paragraphs:
a. 5.1.1 Identification Marking
b. 5.4.1.1.1 Identification Barcode Marking
c. 5.13 Hazmat Marking and Labeling

D.2. BAR CODE ASSET TRACKING SYSTEM
As ordered by the Government, each equipment item delivered to the FAA must have a bar code identifying the item in accordance with the FAA approved Bar Code as described in Section C of this contract.
The contractor must support the FAA scanning initiative for tracking production units from their point of shipment originating at the production facility to receipt of production units by the FAA. To support this effort, the contractor must record the unit serial numbers in the FAA .XML file tracking format specified by the FAA. The contractor must also attach the tracking information to the shipment in a separate file.
The contractor must align the barcode scanning process to allow the interface with the FAA Life Cycle
Asset Tracking System (LCATS). The contractor must modify any existing processes to work with the
FAA Scanning Process as defined in Contract Section C.3.3.12.
D.3. STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
Components, equipment, and spares must be transported by the most economical means considering dependability, safety, urgency of need and the use of the least costly mode meeting these considerations to the FAA Logistics Center. All material must be shipped F.O.B. Destination.
For all shipments, the Contractor must send electronic mail messages to the FAA Contracting Officer and other FAA Points of Contract listed in Section G (Contracting Officer’s Representative, FAA Property
Manager, etc.) as follows:
Sixty (60) days prior to shipment - The Contracting Officer s the FAA Contracting Officer and other FAA Points of Contract listed in Section G the following pertinent information via electronic mail:
1. Contract Number;
2. National Stock Number & Material-Management-Code;
3. Number of Pieces;
4. Weight and Dimensions of each piece in each shipment;
5. Any special storage requirements; and
6. Expected Delivery Date
Upon shipment to Destination - The Contractor must send notification of shipment.
