About this file

This document is a Scope of Work (SOW) for the Palo Alto Fire Department's annual physical examinations for firefighting personnel. The project involves at least 7 onsite visits, including four visits to draw lab samples and complete PPD testing, and three full examination days from 7am-5pm at Station 6. Approximately 60 firefighters will receive comprehensive physicals annually, with specific requirements including mandatory PPD testing, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) for males over 39, and Cholinesterase testing for HAZMAT personnel. The examination process will be coordinated by the Fire Department's Physical Fitness Coordinator, with shifts rotated throughout the day to accommodate all personnel across 6 fire stations and fire administration.

The physical examination package includes a comprehensive medical assessment with physician examination, standard laboratory tests (Basic Metabolic Profile, Lipid Panel, CBC, Urinalysis), cardiovascular stress testing, and ancillary testing such as body composition, pulmonary function, and vision screening. Optional services are available, including behavioral health assessment, skin cancer screening, ultrasound screenings, additional blood tests, functional movement assessment, chest X-rays, coronary calcium scoring, and additional cardiac risk blood markers. The contract allows for flexible scheduling, with on-site physicals performed while employees are on duty and the option for off-duty appointments if necessary. Mandatory vaccines including Hepatitis B, Tetanus, MMR, and Varicella will also be offered as part of the comprehensive health screening.
