About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for preventative service and maintenance of Chameleon Ultra II and Chameleon XR Laser Systems for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Synaptic Physiology Section. The contract covers maintenance support services for two specific laser systems: Chameleon Ultra s/n GDP.1117782.7079 (head s/n GDP.1001H.4200) and Chameleon XR s/n GDP.1121784.9578.

The performance period includes a base year from 01/01/2025 to 12/31/2025 with four one-year option periods extending through 12/31/2029. Key requirements include: phone support from certified technicians within 1 business day; on-site service within 3 business days if phone support cannot resolve issues; service hours from 6am to 6pm in Bethesda, MD; unlimited remote diagnostic and phone support; genuine Coherent replacement parts with no substitutions; Advance Replacement Units shipped within 5 business days for major failures; and all labor, travel costs, and replacement parts must be included. The contractor must provide certified factory-trained service engineers and will be billed on a monthly fixed-price basis. The systems are used for neural circuit research, specifically studying retinal circuitry and synaptic mechanisms.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SERVICES)

(SOW)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Project:

Preventative Service and Maintenance contract for Chameleon Ultra II and Chameleon XR Laser Systems.

Statement of Need and Purpose:

The purpose of this acquisition is to procure maintenance support services for Chameleon Ultra s/n GDP.1117782.7079 (head s/n GDP.1001H.4200) and Chameleon XR s/n GDP.1121784.9578 owned by NINDS, for the base period of 01/01/25 - 12/31/25 with 4 option years.

Background Information and Objective:

The NINDS Synaptic Physiology Section seeks to understand how neural circuits receive, compute, encode and transmit information. More specifically, we’d like to learn what biophysical and morphological features equip synapses, neurons and networks to perform these tasks. The retina is a wonderful model system for the study of neuronal information processing: We can deliver precisely defined physiological stimuli and record responses from many different cell types at various points within the network; in addition, retinal circuitry is particularly well understood, enabling us to interpret more directly the impact of synaptic and cellular mechanisms on circuit function. We have exploited these advantages to examine how synapses and neurons within retinal circuits perform specific visual computations. Therefore, we need maintain our current laser system to be precise enough to continue our research of retina stimulation.

Period of Performance:

Base: 01/01/2025 - 12/31/2025 Option 1: 01/01/2026 - 12/31/2026 Option 2: 01/01/2027 - 12/31/2027 Option 3: 01/01/2028 - 12/31/2028 Option 4: 01/01/2029 - 12/31/2029
