About this file
This document is a Calibration Standard Specification (CSS) for a Fiber Optic Measurement System (FOMS) for the Department of the Navy's Metrology and Calibration Program. The specification details comprehensive technical requirements for a measurement system including laser sources (850 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm), optical detectors (850 nm and 790-1610 nm wavelength ranges), variable attenuators, and simplex patch cables. The system is designed for shore-based Navy laboratories and must operate within specific environmental conditions, including a temperature range of 15-30°C with 0-90% relative humidity, and electrical power input of 109.25V to 126V at 50-60 Hz.
Key technical specifications include precise performance metrics such as laser source power stability (±0.02 dB short-term, ±0.05 dB long-term), optical detector uncertainty (±2.5%), and variable attenuator accuracy (±0.1-0.2 dB). The system requires a digital control interface supporting IEEE 488.2 and Ethernet connectivity, and must include a graphical color display with resolution down to 0.0001 dB/dBm. The specification calls for multiple patch cable types across various fiber sizes and connector interfaces, with four cables of each specified type. The document is dated April 2025 and is prepared by the Electronics Measurements Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division.
