Section C - Description/Specifications/Statement of Work

PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT (PWS)

X5000 Preventative Maintenance Services

1.0 Description/Background

NSWCCD Code 611 performs research and development on a wide gamut of materials, processes, and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods. Code 611 is required to acquire maintenance services and contracts for nondestructive evaluation (NDE) equipment.

The X5000 is an X-ray computed tomography (XCT) system produced by North Star Imaging (NSI), in Rogers, MN, USA, capable of obtaining three dimensional volumetric scans of various materials. The X5000 system enables Code 611 to perform advanced inspection on specimens that could not be inspected using traditional NDE methods.

The X5000 needs regular maintenance to ensure that the X-ray set remains free of contamination and to monitor, replace wearable components when needed and have the most up-to-date software to run the system. Preventive maintenance and software updates to the already approved software will prevent unplanned downtime due to unnecessary failures, extend the life of the system, maximize equipment performance, and minimize maintenance costs. All software is required to utilize the X5000 system in a safe and effective manner.

XCT systems of this size emit lethal amounts of radiation when energized, and improper service can result in serious injury or death of contractors or government civilians. As such, the Radiation Safety Office (RSO) has indicated that only NSI personnel who are trained and qualified to perform inspection, repair, and service can do so on the NSI X5000 system at Carderock.

2.0 Objective

The contractor shall provide comprehensive Preventative Maintenance and Software (PM&S) updates to NSWCCD's NSI X5000 (herein referred to as a "X5000") and all supplies and services per the minimum specifications section 2.1 - 2.2.
