Project Manual
The State of California, Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a firm to develop twenty-four (24) exterior graphic panels, design and fabrication. Exterior graphic panel design shall include research and development of panel storylines, preparation of panel layout, graphics, and text.
The existing panels are damaged, outdated and severely weathered or missing, making them useless for our visitors. The purpose of this project is to improve natural, cultural and recreational opportunities and resources.
Background
Oceano Dunes SVRA was acquired by the state in 1974 with operating permits completed in 1982. It is the only California State Park where vehicles may drive on the beach and where people may camp directly on the beach. Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) recreation is permitted in a portion of the dunes owned by California State Parks. Additional parklands are dedicated to non-motorized recreation, including Oso Flaco Lake, a popular nature destination.
Over 2 million people visit ODSVRA annually. They come to enjoy the scenic beauty and varied recreation opportunities found in the dunes and surrounding landscapes. The largest visitor group is comprised of people who come to ride OHVs in the SVRA. Other key visitor groups include people who are visiting the beach for hiking or beach play; birders; and school groups generally grades 2-5.
The park is visited year-round. Summer months and holidays are extremely busy. There is no real off-season as there is still a steady visitation rate outside the summer months.
