SECTION C - DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS/STATEMENT OF WORK
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
UTE TOWER REROOF PROJECT
1.1 SCOPE OF CONTRACT
1.2
A. This project consists of the reroofing of the historic UTE Tower on the Ashley National Forest.
B. Work includes:
1. Remove and dispose of existing cedar wood shingle roofing system.
2. The existing plywood sheathing to remain.
3. Remove & reinstall the lightning protection rod, lightning protection cables across the roof, clamps & fasteners across the roof, and appurtenances across the roof.
4. Install a multi-width synthetic cedar shingle roofing system as specified in Specification
Section 073129 SYNTHETIC CEDAR SHINGLES, and as per manufacturer’s instructions, to include matching synthetic cedar ridge caps on each of the 4 ridges.
5. Work includes the installation of the roofing felt and self-adhering ice shield underlayment over the entire roof, the flashing, the synthetic shingles, the synthetic ridge caps, and all necessary fasteners and accessories. Flashing shall be galvanized steel, no sheen, mill finish.
6. Metal Work: Fabricate and install a matching stove pipe sleeved flashing piece, to match existing material and dimensions. Within that new sleeved flashing piece, reinstall the salvaged stove pipe w/ flashing to match.
C. The contractor shall mobilize the necessary equipment and a workforce in a remote, forest area (see Notes and Drawings on Sheets 1 and 2).
D. The Ute Tower is on the National Register of Historic Places and will conform to the requirements of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
PROJECT LOCATION
A. The project is located on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District of the Ashley National Forest, Daggett County, Utah. It is located approximately 51 miles North-West of Vernal Utah near Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The site can be accessed by taking U.S. Highway 191 North from Vernal for approximately 31 miles, then turning West on U.S. Highway 44 for approximately 14 miles. Turn west (left) on paved Forest Road 218 for 3 miles, left onto unpaved Forest Road 221 for 1.3 miles, left (South) onto Forest Road 055 for approximately 1.3 miles.
B. Portions of Forest Road 055 road may require the removal of some vegetation on some of the tight turns along the road edges, for accessibility for large equipment, and will require coordination with the Contracting Officer.
1.3 SITE INFORMATION AND LIMITATIONS
A. The following site conditions are considered incidental to the contract, and the contractor will not be paid directly for any of the following items:

1. Construction site will be closed to the public during construction but open to authorized government employees. The Contractor will be responsible for signing, limiting public access, and safety of public and/or government employees in the area.
2. The Contractor is responsible for the security or the Contractor’s equipment and materials.
3. Utilities are not available at the site for construction purposes. The Contractor will be responsible for coordinating the installation of temporary power for the site and the cost for the service.
4. Contractor will provide all materials and labor necessary to protect streams, wet or dry, during construction activities. The Contractor will be required to submit a stream protection/ erosion control plan and receive approval from the COR, in writing, prior to the beginning of construction.
5. No fuel storage on site is permitted. Fuel trucks must be equipped with spill containment kits and portable berms that meet all state and federal regulations. A spill containment plan must be submitted and approved prior to construction.
6. The Contractor shall provide temporary toilet facilities (porta-potty) at the site during all construction work. Toilet facilities shall be provided at a rate of one stool for every 10 workers assigned or working on site.
7. All construction equipment shall be pressure washed before entering the Site. The removal of mud and debris from treads, tracks and undercarriage, with emphasis on axles, frame, cross-members, motor mounts, and underneath steps, running boards, and front bumper/brush guard assemblies will be required. The purpose is to reduce or eliminate the transportation of noxious weeds, which is required by Federal and State regulations.
1.4 WORK CAMPS, STAGING AND STORAGE AREAS
A. Areas for staging operations and storage of materials shall be approved by the CO. The Contractor must request in writing for approval from the CO to stage trailers (work or housing) on site.
B. Overnight camping will be allowed on site as directed by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.
1.5 INSPECTION OF WORKSITE
A. The contractor acknowledges they have taken the necessary steps to ascertain the nature and location of work and have investigated and satisfied themselves as to the general and local conditions that can affect the work or its cost. Any failure of the contractor to take the actions described and acknowledged in this paragraph will not relieve the Contractor from the responsibility of estimating properly the difficulty and cost of successfully performing the work, or for proceeding to successfully perform the work without additional expenses to the government.

SECTION 011250 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Measurement and payment for contract work will be made only for and under those pay items included in the Schedule of Items. All other work, labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals necessary to successfully complete the project will be considered as included in the payment for items shown. This section defines the method of measurements and basis of payment for work items listed in the Schedule of Items.
B. When more than one class, size, type, thickness, etc. is specified in the Schedule of Items for any pay item, suffixes will be added to the item number to differentiate between the pay items.
1.2 DETERMINATION OF QUANTITIES
A. The following measurements and calculations shall be used to determine contract quantities for payment.
1. For individual construction items, longitudinal and lateral measurements for area computations shall be made horizontally or corrected to horizontal measurement unless otherwise specified. Measurements for geotextiles, netting and erosion control blankets shall be along slope lines.
2. For Structures, they shall be measured according to neat lines shown on the drawings or as altered by the CO, in writing, to fit field conditions.
3. For items that are measured by the linear foot, such as pipe culverts, fencing, guardrail, piping, utilities, and underdrains, measurements shall be made parallel to the base or foundation upon which the structures are placed.
4. For standard manufactured items (such as fence, wire, plates, rolled shapes, pipe conduits) identified by gauge, weight, section dimensions, and so forth, such identifications shall be considered the nominal weights or dimensions. Unless controlled by tolerances in cited specifications, manufacturer's tolerances shall be accepted.
B. Earthwork Tolerances - Adjustments of horizontal or vertical alignment, within the tolerances specified in this contract, or shifts of balance points up to 100 feet shall be made by the contractor as necessary to produce the designed sections and to balance earthwork. Such adjustments shall not be considered as "Changes."
1.3 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT
A. Payment shall be by units defined and determined according to U.S. Standard measure and by the following:

1. Cubic Yard (CY): A measurement computed by one of the following methods:
a. Excavation, Embankment, or Borrow. The measurement computed by the average end area method from measurements made longitudinally along a centerline or reference line.
b. Material in Place or Stockpile. The measurement computed using the dimensions of the in-place material.
c. Material in the Delivery Vehicle. The measurement computed using measurements of material in the hauling vehicles at the point of delivery.
Vehicles shall be loaded to at least their water level capacity. Leveling of the loads may be required when vehicles arrive at the delivery point.
2. Each (EA): One complete unit, which may consist of one or more parts.
3. thereof) ordered by the Contracting Officer and performed by the contractor.
4. Linear Foot (LF): Measurement of work along its length from point-to-point;
parallel to the base or foundation. Do not measure overlaps.
5. Lump Sum (LS): One complete unit.

7. Square Yard (SY): Measured on a plane parallel to the surface being measured.
1.4 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
A. One of the following methods of measurement for determining final payment is designated on the Schedule of Items for each pay item:
1. LUMP SUM QUANTITIES (LSQ) - These quantities denote one complete unit of work as required by or described in the contract, including necessary materials, equipment, and labor to complete the job. They shall not be measured.

SECTION 011900 - MOBILIZATION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This item is intended to compensate the Contractor for operations including, but not limited to, those necessary for the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and incidentals to the project site; for payment of premiums for bonds and insurance for the project; and for any other work and operations which must be performed or costs that must be incurred incident to the initiation of meaningful work at the site and for which payment is not otherwise provided for under the contract.
1.2 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. The measurement shall be lump sum for mobilization. Payment shall be as follows:
1. Bond premiums will be reimbursed after receipt of the evidence of payment.
2. 50% of the lump sum, not to exceed 5% of the original contract amount, will be paid following completion of 5% of the original contract amount not including mobilization and bond premiums.
3. Payment of the remaining portion of the lump sum, up to 10% of the original contract amount, will be paid following completion of 10% of the original contract amount not including mobilization and bond premiums.
4. Any portion of the lump sum in excess of 10% of the original contract amount will be paid after final acceptance.
5. Progress payments for mobilization and preparatory work shall be subject to retainage.

SECTION 013300 - SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes administrative and procedural requirements for submitting Shop Drawings, Product Data, Samples, Test Reports and other miscellaneous submittals.
See Table 013300-1 for a summary of required submittals.
B. See other specification section within this package for additional requirements on submittals.
1.2 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
A. Coordination: Coordinate preparation and processing of submittals with performance of construction activities.
1. Coordinate transmittal of different types of submittals for related parts of the Work so processing will not be delayed because of need to review submittals concurrently for coordination.
a. The Contracting Officer (CO) reserves the right to withhold action on a submittal requiring coordination with other submittals until related submittals are received.
B. Processing Time: Allow enough time for submittal review, including time for re-submittals, as follows. Time for review shall commence on CO's receipt of submittal.
1. Initial Review: Allow 14 days for initial review of each submittal. Allow additional time if processing must be delayed to permit coordination with subsequent submittals. CO will advise Contractor when a submittal being processed must be delayed for coordination.
2. If intermediate submittal is necessary, process it in same manner as initial submittal.
3. Allow 14 days for processing each re-submittal.
4. No extension of the Contract Time will be authorized because of failure to transmit submittals enough in advance of the Work to permit processing.
C. Identification: Place a permanent label or title block on each submittal for identification.
1. Indicate name of firm or entity that prepared each submittal on label or title block.
2. Provide a space on label or beside title block to record Contractor's review and approval markings and action taken by CO.

3. Include the following information on label for processing and recording action taken:
a. Project name.
b. Date.
c. Name and address of Contractor.
d. Name of manufacturer.
e. Unique identifier, including revision number.
f. Number and title of appropriate Specification Section.
g. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.
h. If more than one item is shown on submittal sheet, identify item.
D. Deviations: Highlight, encircle, or otherwise identify deviations from the Contract Documents on submittals.
E. Additional Copies: Unless additional copies are required for final submittal, and unless CO observes noncompliance with provisions of the Contract Documents, initial submittal may serve as final submittal.
F. Use for Construction: Use only final submittals with mark indicating action taken by CO in connection with construction.
1.3 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. No separate measurement and/or payment will be made for this section. Payment shall be included with work shown in the schedule of items.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 ACTION SUBMITTALS – (Submittals requiring CO approval)
A. General: Prepare and submit Action Submittals required by individual Specification Sections.
1. Number of Copies: Submit three copies of each submittal, unless otherwise indicated. CO will return two copies. Mark up and retain one returned copy as a Project Record Document.
B. Product Data: Collect information into a single submittal for each element of construction and type of product or equipment.
1. If information must be specially prepared for submittal because standard printed data are not suitable for use, submit as Shop Drawings, not as Product Data.
2. Mark each copy of each submittal to show which products and options are applicable.
3. Include the following information, as applicable:
a. Manufacturer's written recommendations.
b. Manufacturer's product specifications.
c. Manufacturer's installation instructions.

d. Manufacturer's catalog cuts.
e. Wiring diagrams showing factory-installed wiring.
f. Compliance with recognized trade association standards.
g. Compliance with recognized testing agency standards.
C. Shop Drawings: Prepare Project-specific information, drawn accurately to scale. Do not base Shop Drawings on reproductions of the Contract Documents or standard printed data.
1. Preparation: Include the following information, as applicable:
a. Dimensions.
b. Identification of products.
c. Fabrication and installation drawings.
d. Roughing-in and setting diagrams.
e. Notation of dimensions established by field measurement.
D. Contractor's Construction Schedule: The contractor shall submit a Construction Schedule, for approval by CO, in accordance with the contract provisions within 5 day of commencement of work.
E. Samples: Prepare physical units of materials or products, including the following:
1. Samples for Initial Selection: Submit manufacturer's color charts consisting of units or sections of units showing the full range of colors, textures, and patterns available.
2.2 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS – (Submittals NOT requiring CO approval)
A. General: Prepare and submit Informational Submittals required by other Specification Sections.
1. Number of Copies: Submit three copies of each submittal, unless otherwise indicated. CO will not return copies.
2. Certificates and Certifications: Certificates and certifications shall be signed by an officer or other individual authorized to sign documents on behalf of that entity.
3. Test and Inspection Reports: Comply with requirements in Section 014100 "Quality Control”
B. Material Test Reports: Prepare reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting test results of material for compliance with requirements.
C. Field Test Reports: Prepare reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting results of field tests performed either during installation of product or after product is installed in its final location, for compliance with requirements.
D. Maintenance Data: Prepare written and graphic instructions and procedures for operation and normal maintenance of products and equipment.

E. Manufacturer's Instructions: Prepare written or published information that documents manufacturer's recommendations, guidelines, and procedures for installing or operating a product or equipment. Include name of product and name, address, and telephone number of manufacturer.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 GENERAL
A. Review each submittal and check for compliance with the Contract Documents. Note corrections and field dimensions. Mark with approval stamp before submitting to CO.
B. Approval Stamp: Stamp each submittal with a uniform, approval stamp. Include Project name and location, submittal number, Specification Section title and number, name of reviewer, date of Contractor's approval, and statement certifying that submittal has been reviewed, checked, and approved for compliance with the Contract Documents.
C. CO will not review submittals that do not bear Contractor's approval stamp and will return them without action.
D. Submittals not required by the Contract Documents will not be reviewed and may be discarded.
E. Substitutions – Whenever materials, products, and equipment are listed by name or brand in the specifications and/or on the drawings, it is used as a measure of quality, utility, or standard. If the Contractor prefers to use any other brand or manufacturer of same quality, appearance and utility to that specified, he shall request substitution as provided below, not less than 30 days before the planned installation of the item. The Contracting Officer will approve or disapprove the request for substitution.
1. Requests for substitutions will only be considered if contractor submits the following:
a. Complete technical data including drawings, complete performance specifications, test data, samples and performance tests of the article proposed for substitution. Submit additional information if required by Contracting Officer. All items in the above information shall be circled, tagged, or marked in some way to indicate all deviations or differences which the proposed item differs from the originally specified item.
b. Similar data as above for item originally specified. All items shall be marked to identify where/how the proposed substitution will differ.
c. A statement by the Contractor that the proposed substitution is in full compliance with the contract documents, applicable codes, and laws.
d. The Contractor shall be responsible for any effect upon related work in the project for any substitution and shall pay any additional costs generated by any substitutions.

3.2 SUBMITTAL SCHEDULE – Submittals shall be made as required by and called for in the drawings and specifications. The following table is a summary of the required submittals for the project - the table is to assist the Contractor and may not be all inclusive – additional submittals may be required by specific specifications:

SECTION 017320 - SELECTIVE DEMOLITION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes demolition and removal of the following:
1. Selected portions of a building or structure which include the existing wood shingle system.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
A. Remove: Detach items from existing construction and legally dispose of them off-site, unless indicated to be removed and salvaged or removed and reinstalled.
1.3 MATERIALS OWNERSHIP
A. Except for items or materials indicated to be reused, salvaged, reinstalled, or otherwise indicated to remain Government property, demolished materials shall become Contractor's property and shall be removed from Project site.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Schedule of Selective Demolition Activities: Indicate detailed sequence of selective demolition and removal work, with starting and ending dates for each activity, interruption of utility services, use of elevator and stairs, and locations of temporary partitions and means of egress.
B. Pre-demolition Photographs or Videotape: Show existing conditions of adjoining construction and site improvements that might be misconstrued as damage caused by selective demolition operations. Submit before Work begins.
C. Landfill Records: Indicate receipt and acceptance of hazardous wastes by a landfill facility licensed to accept hazardous wastes.
1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Building Moving Firm Qualifications: An experienced firm that has specialized in facility relocations and work similar to the extent shown on the drawings.
B. Demolition Firm Qualifications: An experienced firm that has specialized in demolition work similar in material and extent to that indicated for this Project.
C. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with governing EPA notification regulations before beginning selective demolition. Comply with hauling and disposal regulations of authorities having jurisdiction.
D. Standards: Comply with ANSI A10.6 and NFPA 241.
E. Pre-demolition Conference: Conduct conference at Project site with contractor, subcontractors and Contracting Officer’s Representative.
1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Government campgrounds will be will occupied in the areas portions immediately adjacent to selective demolition area. Conduct selective demolition so Government operations will not be disrupted. Provide not less than 72 hours' notice to CO of activities that will affect Government operations.
B. Maintain access to existing site amenities, pathways, and other adjacent occupied or used facilities.
1. Do not close or obstruct walkways, corridors, or other occupied or used facilities without written permission from authorities having jurisdiction.
C. Government assumes no responsibility for condition of areas to be selectively demolished.
1. Conditions existing at time of inspection for bidding purpose will be maintained by Government as far as practical.
1.7 WARRANTY
A. Existing Warranties: Remove, replace, patch, and repair materials and surfaces cut or damaged during selective demolition, by methods and with materials so as not to void existing warranties.
1.8 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. There will be no separate measurement or payment for work in this section. Payment will be included at the contract unit price for items shown on the Schedule of Items.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 REPAIR MATERIALS
A. Use repair materials identical to existing materials.
1. If identical materials are unavailable or cannot be used for exposed surfaces, use materials that visually match existing adjacent surfaces to the fullest extent possible.
2. Use materials whose installed performance equal or surpasses that of existing materials.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that utilities have been disconnected and capped.
B. Survey existing conditions and correlate with requirements indicated to determine extent of selective demolition required.
C. Inventory and record the condition of items to be removed and reinstalled and items to be removed and salvaged.
D. When unanticipated mechanical, electrical, or structural elements that conflict with intended function or design are encountered, investigate and measure the nature and extent of conflict. Promptly submit a written report to CO.
E. Engage a professional engineer to survey condition of building to determine whether removing any element might result in structural deficiency or unplanned collapse of any portion of structure or adjacent structures during selective demolition operations.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Site Access and Temporary Controls: Conduct selective demolition and debris-removal operations to ensure minimum interference with roads, streets, walks, walkways, and other adjacent occupied and used facilities.
1. Do not close or obstruct roads, without permission from CO. Provide alternate routes around closed or obstructed traffic ways if required by governing regulations.
2. Erect temporary protection, such as walks, fences, railings, canopies, and covered passageways, where required by authorities having jurisdiction.
3. Protect existing site improvements, appurtenances, and landscaping to remain.
3.3 SELECTIVE DEMOLITION
A. General: Demolish and remove existing construction only to the extent required by new construction and as indicated. Use methods required to complete the Work within limitations of governing regulations.
1. Neatly cut openings and holes plumb, square, and true to dimensions required.
Use cutting methods least likely to damage construction to remain or adjoining construction.
2. Cut or drill from the exposed or finished side into concealed surfaces to avoid marring existing finished surfaces.
3. Do not use cutting torches until work area is cleared of flammable materials. At concealed spaces, such as duct and pipe interiors, verify condition and contents of hidden space before starting flame-cutting operations. Maintain portable fire-suppression devices during flame-cutting operations.
4. Locate selective demolition equipment and remove debris and materials so as not to impose excessive loads on supporting walls, floors, or framing.
3.4 DISPOSAL OF DEMOLISHED MATERIALS
A. General: Promptly dispose of demolished materials. Do not allow demolished materials to accumulate on-site.
B. Burning: Do not burn demolished materials.
C. Disposal: Transport demolished materials off Government property and legally disposes of them.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: A qualified installer who is an approved affiliate member of
CSSB.

B. Source Limitations: Obtain shingles through one source from a single manufacturer.
C. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Provide shingles and related roofing materials with the fire-test-response characteristics indicated, as determined by testing identical products per test method indicated below by UL or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Identify materials with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency.
1. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; UL 790 or ASTM E 108 with ASTM D 2898, for application and roof slopes indicated.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store underlayment rolls on end on pallets or other raised surfaces. Do not double-stack rolls.
1. Handle, store, and place roofing materials in a manner to avoid significant or permanent damage to roof deck or structural supporting members.
2. Store synthetic shake products at temperature between 40 and 120 degrees F.
B. Protect unused underlayment from weather, sunlight, and moisture when left overnight or when roofing work is not in progress.
1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit roofing to be performed according to manufacturer's written instructions and warranty requirements.
1. Install self-adhering sheet underlayment within the range of ambient and substrate temperatures recommended by manufacturer.
1.6 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer Standard Warranty for Materials and Installation; Synthetic Cedar Shingle Roofing System.
B. Special Project Warranty: Roofing Installer's warranty, on warranty form at end of this Section, signed by roofing Installer, covering Work of this Section, in which roofing Installer agrees to repair or replace components of wood shingle roofing that fail in materials or workmanship within the following warranty period:
1. Installer’s Warranty Period: Two years from date of Substantial Completion.
1.7 EXTRA MATERIALS
A. Furnish extra materials described below that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.
1. Shingles: 100 sq. ft (9.3 sq. m) of each type, in unbroken bundles.

1.8 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. There will be a separate measurement or payment for work in this section as shown on the Schedule of Items for the building.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURERS
A. In other Part 2 articles where titles below introduce lists, the following requirements apply to product selection:
1. Available Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, products specified.
2.2 SYNTHETIC SHINGLES
A. Synthetic Roof Shingles: Lightweight, synthetic shingles with the appearance, color, texture, and thickness of natural wood shakes.
1. Product: Multi-Width Shingle as manufactured by CeDUR or approved equal.
2. Material: Engineered polymer formulated from 100 percent virgin polyurethanes to ensure high quality and consistency of raw materials, Use of recycled materials is not acceptable.
3. Attributes:
a. Fire resistance: Class A (without the use of Class A rated underlayment’s) tested in accordance with ASTM E/UL 790
b. Impact resistance: Class 4 to withstand two drops of 2 inches (52mm) diameter, 1.2 pounds (0.54kg) steel ball dropped from 20 feet (6m) tested in accordance with UL 2218.
c. Freeze-thaw resistance: No crazing, cracking, or other deleterious surface changes after one-month exposure with temperature cycled from -40 to 180 degrees F (0 degrees to 8s degress C) in 22 hours tested in accordance with International Code Council (ICC) – ES Acceptance Criteria AC07 Section 4.9
d. Installed weight:
1) At 9 inches (229 mm) exposure: 188 pounds per square
2) At 10 inches (254 mm) exposure: 170 pounds per square
4. Profile: Solid polyurethane product manufactured in a rectangular shape with exposed to view upper surface and edges textured to resemble natural wood shake
5. Size: Shingle
a. Thickness: Varies from 1/8 inch at top to ¾ inch at bottom

2.5 METAL FLASHING AND TRIM
A. Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim: Comply with requirements in Section 076200 "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim."

1. Sheet Metal: Stainless, steel Zinc-coated (galvanized) steel.
B. Fabricate sheet metal flashing and trim to comply with recommendations in SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" that apply to design, dimensions, metal, and other characteristics of item.
1. Apron Flashings: Fabricate with lower flange a minimum of 6 inches (150 mm) over and beyond each side of downslope roofing and 6 inches (150 mm) up the vertical surface.
2. Step Flashings: Fabricate with a head lap of 3 inches (75 mm) and a minimum extension of 5 inches (125 mm) over the underlying roofing and up the vertical surface.
3. Flashings: Fabricate with concealed flange extending a minimum of 18 inches (450
mm) beneath upslope roofing and 6 inches (150 mm) beyond each side of chimney and 6 inches (150 mm) above the roof plane.
4. Open-Valley Flashings: Fabricate in lengths not exceeding 10 feet (3 m) with 1-inch- (25-mm-) high, inverted-V profile at center of valley and equal flange widths of 12 inches (300 mm).
5. Drip Edges: Fabricate in lengths not exceeding 10 feet (3 m) with 6-inch (150-mm) roof-deck flange and 2-inch (50-mm) fascia flange with 1/2-inch (12.5-mm) drip at lower edge.
C. Vent-Pipe Flashings: ASTM B 749, Type L51121, at least 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) thick.
Provide lead sleeve sized to slip over and turn down into pipe, soldered to skirt at slope of roof and extending at least 8 inches (100 mm) from pipe onto roof.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of work.
1. Examine roof sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing and blocking or metal clips and that installation is within flatness tolerances.
2. Verify that substrate is sound, dry, smooth, clean, sloped for drainage, and completely anchored; and that provision has been made for flashings and penetrations through roofing.
3. For the record, prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance of work.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 ROOF UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION
A. Self-Adhering Sheet Underlayment: Install self-adhering sheet underlayment, wrinkle free, on roof deck. Comply with low-temperature installation restrictions of underlayment manufacturer if applicable. Install at locations indicated below, lapped in

direction to shed water. Lap sides not less than 3-1/2 inches (89 mm). Lap ends not less than 6 inches (150 mm,) staggered 24 inches (600 mm) between courses. Roll laps with roller. Cover underlayment within seven days.
1. Prime concrete and masonry surfaces to receive self-adhering sheet underlayment.
2. Eaves: Extend from edges of eaves 36 inches (914 mm) beyond interior face of exterior wall.
3. Rakes: Extend from edges of rake 36 inches (914 mm) beyond interior face of exterior wall.
4. Valleys: Extend from lowest to highest point 36 inches (914 mm) on each side.
5. Hips: Extend 18 inches (450 mm) on each side.
6. Ridges: Extend 36 inches (914 mm) on each side without obstructing continuous ridge vent slot.
7. Sidewalls: Extend beyond sidewall 36 inches (914 mm) and return vertically against sidewall not less than 18 inches (450 mm).
8. Dormers, Chimneys, Skylights, and other Roof-Penetrating Elements: Extend beyond penetrating element 18 inches (450 mm) and return vertically against penetrating element not less than 6 inches (150 mm).
9. Roof Slope Transitions: Extend 36 inches (914 mm) on each roof slope.
3.3 METAL FLASHING INSTALLATION
A. General: Install metal flashings and other sheet metal to comply with requirements in Section 076200 "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim."
1. Install metal flashings according to roofing recommendations in NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual."
B. Apron Flashings: Extend lower flange over and beyond each side of downslope wood roofing and up the vertical surface.
C. Step Flashings: Install with a headlap of 3 inches (75 mm) and extend over the underlying roofing and up the vertical surface. Install with lower edge of flashing just upslope of, and concealed by, butt of overlying shingle or shake. Fasten to roof deck only.
D. Flashings: Install against the roof-penetrating element extending concealed flange beneath upslope roofing and beyond each side.
E. Open-Valley Flashings: Install centrally in valleys, lapping ends at least 8 inches (200
mm) in direction to shed water. Fasten upper end of each length to roof deck beneath overlap.
1. Secure hemmed flange edges into metal cleats spaced 12 inches (300 mm) apart and fastened to roof deck.
2. Adhere 9-inch- (225-mm-) wide strip of self-adhering sheet to metal flanges and to self-adhering sheet underlayment.
F. Eave Drip Edges: Install eave drip edge flashings below underlayment and fasten to roof deck.

G. Pipe Flashings: Form flashing around pipe penetrations and wood roofing. Fasten and seal to wood roofing.
3.4 ROOF SHINGLE INSTALLATION
A. Install synthetic shakes in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and approved shop drawings.
B. Accurately layout shake shingles. Ensure that edges are parallel and perpendicular to roof eaves
C. Cutting: Layout work to avoid cutting shake shingles.
D. Install shingles in a rack or pyramid style from factory assembled bundles
E. Exposure: Install shingles in linear, straight courses (not staggered courses) with 9 inches (229 mm) exposure and bottom edges of adjacent shingles
F. Spacing: Provide 1/4 - 3/8-inch (6.35 - 9.52 mm) gap between shingles to allow for expansion and contraction
G. Eaves: Install row of starter shingles at eaves as base layer. Project eave shingles approximately 1 inch (25 mm), 1/8 inch (3 mm) past overhanging drip edge, or as required to allow water to drain into gutter or off eave as indicated or required
H. Gables: Project shingles approximately 3/4 inch beyond gable rakes or 1/8 inch (3 mm) past overhanging drip edge
I. Ridges and Hips: After field shingle installation is complete, install preformed 5-inch CeDUR Hip/Ridge
1. Ridges: Use 5” (127 mm) CeDUR preformed Hip/Ridge shingles with 10” (254
mm) exposure. Start ridge shingles at leeward end. Face shingle laps away from prevailing wind
2. Hips: Use 5” (127 mm) CeDUR preformed Hip/Ridge shingles with 10” (254 mm) exposure. Start hip course at eave
J. Fastening: Attach each shingle to wood deck with 2 or 3 nails depending on shake size using hammer or pneumatic nail gun.
1. Place nails at locations indicated on shingles
2. Ensure good penetration but do not overdrive nail. Do not nail at angle. Ensure head is flush with shingle surface to avoid creating craters
3. At valleys do not nail shingles within 5 inches (127 mm) of valley center line
K. Snow Guards: Install snow guards in areas where snow fall is possible
L. Inspect units as they are installed. Do not install cracked, broken, twisted, curled, or otherwise damaged units.
M. As work progresses, exercise care not to scratch or mar installed units. Units damaged during installation shall be immediately removed and discarded.

N. After approximately 200 units have been installed, inspect roof from ground. Verify proper layout and appearance. Repeat inspection every 200 units.
O. Visually inspect complete installation to ensure that it is weather tight.
P. Remove excess materials and debris from finished surfaces and adjacent roof areas.
Q. Do not allow work force on completed roof.
R. Protect installed products until completion of Project.
S. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product; Metal Flashing, Trim, Underlayment Materials
B. Shop Drawings: For sheet metal flashing and trim.
1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and attachment details.
2. Distinguish between shop- and field-assembled work.
3. Include identification of finish for each item.
4. Include pattern of seams and details of termination points, expansion joints and expansion-joint covers, direction of expansion, roof-penetration flashing, and connections to adjoining work.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Fabricator Qualifications: Employs skilled workers who custom fabricate sheet metal flashing and trim similar to that required for this Project and whose products have a record of successful in-service performance.
B. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals to demonstrate aesthetic effects and to set quality standards for fabrication and installation.
1. Build mockup of typical roof edge eave, fascia trim, approximately 10 feet long on the building. The mockup can be incorporated into the work.
1.5 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. No separate payment will be made for the work included under this section; rather payment shall be considered to be included in the items of work listed in the Schedule of Items.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. General: Sheet metal flashing and trim assemblies shall withstand wind loads, structural movement, thermally induced movement, and exposure to weather without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.
Completed sheet metal flashing and trim shall not rattle, leak, or loosen, and shall remain watertight.
B. Sheet Metal Standard for Flashing and Trim: Comply with NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing Manual" and SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" requirements for dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.
C. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes.
1. Temperature Change: 120 deg F, ambient; 180 deg F, material surfaces.
2.2 SHEET METALS
A. General: Protect mechanical and other finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying strippable, temporary protective film before shipping.
B. Metallic-Coated Steel Sheet: Provide zinc-coated (galvanized) steel sheet according to ASTM A 653/A 653M, G90 (Z275) coating designation; pre-painted by coil-coating process to comply with ASTM A 755/A 755M.
1. Surface: Manufacturer's standard clear acrylic coating on both sides.
2. Exposed Coil-Coated Finish:
a. Two-Coat Fluoropolymer: AAMA 621. Fluoropolymer finish containing not less than 70 percent PVDF resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions.
3. Color: As selected by COR from manufacturer's full range.
2.3 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS
A. Self-Adhering, High-Temperature Sheet: Minimum 30 mils thick, consisting of a slip-resistant polyethylene- or polypropylene-film top surface laminated to a layer of butyl-or SBS-modified asphalt adhesive, with release-paper backing; specifically designed to withstand high metal temperatures beneath metal roofing. Provide primer according to written recommendations of underlayment manufacturer.
1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to the following:
a. Grace Construction Products; W.R. Grace & Co. -- Conn.
b. Owens Corning.
c. Protecto Wrap Company.

2. Thermal Stability: ASTM D 1970; stable after testing at 240 deg F or higher.
3. Low-Temperature Flexibility: ASTM D 1970; passes after testing at minus 20 deg F or lower.
B. Slip Sheet: Rosin-sized building paper, 3 lb/100 sq. ft. minimum.
2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. General: Provide materials and types of fasteners, solder, protective coatings, sealants, and other miscellaneous items as required for complete sheet metal flashing and trim installation and as recommended by manufacturer of primary sheet metal or manufactured item unless otherwise indicated.
B. Fasteners: Wood screws, annular threaded nails, self-tapping screws, self-locking rivets and bolts, and other suitable fasteners designed to withstand design loads and recommended by manufacturer of primary sheet metal or manufactured item.
1. General: Blind fasteners or self-drilling screws, gasketed, with hex-washer head.
a. Exposed Fasteners: Heads matching color of sheet metal using plastic caps or factory-applied coating. Provide metal-backed EPDM or PVC sealing washers under heads of exposed fasteners bearing on weather side of metal.
b. Blind Fasteners: High-strength aluminum or stainless-steel rivets suitable for metal being fastened.
c. Spikes and Ferrules: Same material as gutter; with spike with ferrule matching internal gutter width.
2. Fasteners for Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) Steel Sheet: Series 300 stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized steel according to ASTM A 153/A 153M or ASTM F 2329.
C. Solder:
1. For Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) Steel: ASTM B 32, Grade Sn50, 50 percent tin and 50 percent lead or Grade Sn60, 60 percent tin and 40 percent lead.
D. Sealant Tape: Pressure-sensitive, 100 percent solids, polyisobutylene compound sealant tape with release-paper backing. Provide permanently elastic, nonsag, nontoxic, nonstaining tape 1/2 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick.
E. Elastomeric Sealant: ASTM C 920, elastomeric silicone polymer sealant; of type, grade, class, and use classifications required to seal joints in sheet metal flashing and trim and remain watertight.
F. Butyl Sealant: ASTM C 1311, single-component, solvent-release butyl rubber sealant;
polyisobutylene plasticized; heavy bodied for hooked-type expansion joints with limited movement.
G. Bituminous Coating: Cold-applied asphalt emulsion according to ASTM D 1187.
H. Asphalt Roofing Cement: ASTM D 4586, asbestos free, of consistency required for application.

2.5 FABRICATION, GENERAL
A.
