About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Production and Conservation Business Center on behalf of the Kellogg Soil Survey Laboratory (KSSL) for three particle size distribution analyzers (PSDA) and accessories. The NAICS code is 334516 – Analytical Laboratory Instruments. The procurement objective is to acquire three laser diffraction particle size analyzers to expand KSSL's capacity to process approximately 8,000 soil samples required for the Regenerative Pilot Program (RPP) with a mid-December deadline for particle size data delivery.
The required analyzers must be 100% compatible with current KSSL technology, specifically laser diffraction systems with single-lens measurement range of 0.01–3500 µm, 690 mm optical bench length, red laser (633 nm Helium-Neon), blue LED (10 mW, 470 nm), wide-angle detection (0.015°–144°), and compatibility with all Mastersizer 3000/3000+ wet dispersion units. Included hardware must feature 600 mL sample tank, materials including stainless steel and borosilicate glass, variable-power inline sonication (40W @ 40 kHz), automated pumping/stirring up to 2.3 L/min, and full automation of sample dispersion, cleaning, and dispersant filling. Deliverables consist of three particle analyzers within 180 days after receipt of order, to be shipped to Kellogg Soil Survey Laboratory, 1121 Lincoln Mall, room 230, Lincoln, NE 68508. Interested parties must submit responses via email by 10:00 a.m. on July 10, 2026 to scott.crist@usda.gov and ryan.lorimer@usda.gov with the subject line "KSSL – Three (3) Particle Size Analyzers." Responses should include confirmation of capability, delivery timeline estimate, country of manufacture, pricing information for market research purposes, company name, address, point of contact, phone number, email address, socio-economic business size, office locations, and Unique Entity ID Number if registered in the System for Award Management. This RFI explicitly states it is not a Request for Quote or Proposal, no contract will be awarded from this synopsis, and all submissions become Government property without confirmation of receipt or return.
