About this file

This is a specifications and Statement of Work document for the expansion and upgrading of Micro-Oxymax respirometer systems. The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (Solicitation Number 1232SA26Q0540) is procuring equipment and accessories to expand respirometry capabilities at the Industrial Pilot Plant, a multi-user facility supporting researchers from the Bioproducts and Renewable Utilization (BRU) group, partners, the High Performance Fermentation Research (HPFR) center, and other users. The recommended instrument is the Micro-Oxymax 20 Chamber System with accessories from Columbus Instruments.

The procurement encompasses three specific Columbus Instruments Micro-Oxymax systems, each requiring standardization and expansion. System 2024-0323-6 (USDA property tag PP0000115503) requires expansion to full capacity with 20 additional channels and standardization to GLS-80 wide mouth flasks with 3/8 tubing connections. Systems 2022-0277-4 (USDA property tag PP0000114647) and 2024-0124-1 (USDA property tag PP0000115340) both require standardization to 3/8 tubing, GLS-80 wide mouth lid assemblies with 3/8 tubing connections, and modification of pass-through tubing entry to square 45-degree ports. All equipment must be compatible with existing systems, deliver comparable measurements across instruments, and represent current state-of-the-art technology used throughout the research community to maintain standardization and reproducibility.

Respirometer channels and upgrades for determining degradation of materials in various media Recommended Instrument:

Micro-Oxymax 20 Chamber System with Accessories.

The Industrial Pilot Plant needs to expand our respirometry capabilities and upgrade current systems. Our systems are at the limit with demand from researchers in line to use the equipment and need to be expanded with additional channels. Upgrades are required to maintain standardization and reproducibility between the systems. The respirometers are located in a multi-user facility used by BRU, partners, HPFR and open to others.

The new respirometer expansion and upgrades must meet the following specifications:

1. Must be compatible with all the features of the current respirometer which is a Micro-Oxymax Columbus Instruments system

2. Measurements must be comparable from both instruments

3. Must be a system that is the current state-of-the-art model that is used throughout the research community

Specific needs for each Columbus Instruments Micro-Oxymax system are as follows:

2024-0323-6 (USDA property tag PP0000115503) Expand to full capacity with 20 additional channels Standardize to GLS-80 wide mouth flasks and lid assemblies with 3/8 tubing connections

2022-0277-4 (USDA property tag PP0000114647) Standardize to 3/8 tubing Standardize to GLS-80 wide mouth lid assemblies with 3/8 tubing connections Standardize pass through tubing entry to square 45 degree port

2024-0124-1 (USDA property tag PP0000115340) Standardize to 3/8 tubing Standardize to GLS-80 wide mouth flasks and lid assemblies with 3/8 tubing connections Standardize pass through tubing entry to square 45 degree port
