Brand Name or Equal Justification – Roche MagNA Pure 24
NF-FP7100-21-02645
Roche MagNA Pure 24 or Equivalent
Justification:
Roche Diagnostics / Roche Applied Science (Roche) is uniquely qualified to provide these services to NWFSC Marine Forensic Laboratory, Seattle WA and Charleston, SC based upon the following:
a. Roche manufactures the MagNA Pure 24 which is the only fully automated DNA extraction instrument using magnetic bead capture technology using one universal nucleic acid reagent kit for multiple types of biological materials (including tissue) and is capable of variable enzymatic preprocessed lysis buffer and elution buffer volumes.
b. Roche meets our requirements for manufacturing an instrument that is compact enough to fit on our laboratories existing bench space, and has liquid handling for variable sample number processing (2 - 24) to minimizing plastic waste, and elutes samples in a standardized 96 well plate format (8 well strip tubes).
c. Roche meets our requirements for manufacturing an instrument compatible for a forensic laboratory with UV decontamination, no detectable cross contamination, and audit traceable software.
d. The Roche MagNA Pure 24 replaces the discontinued instrument we currently use, the MagNA Pure LC 2. The new automated DNA extraction instruments must be compatible to our existing Standardized Operating Procedures (SOPs) in our Forensics Laboratory for medium through-put automated DNA processing provided by the Roche MagNA Pure
24. Plus, we require identical automated DNA extraction instruments and components to standardize protocols across both forensic laboratory sites.
Minimum Specifications/Salient Characteristics
• Automated and hands-free genomic DNA purification robotic instrument using magnetic bead DNA capture technology
• Bench top instrument that can fit inside our existing laboratory bench space, no larger than 40” x 28” x 36”
• Allows for external, enzymatic sample preprocessing and variable input volumes
• Allows for variable elution volumes
• Can process up to 96 sample a day or more
• Can process variable number of samples with a minimum of 2 and maximum of 24 in one run.
• Can process variable number of samples without excessive plastic waste from unused wells from a plate
• Can batch process variable number of samples in the same run using the standard spacing 8 well column/plate format
• Can elute DNA into standard 8 column wells (strip tubes) or 96 well plates to be compatible with our existing downstream processes and storage. For example, the instrument does not elute ONLY into a single 1.5 milliliter tubes.
• Can handle multiple types of biological material for DNA extraction including one for muscle tissue protocol.
• No cross contamination detected between DNA samples
• UV decontamination and a closed housing
• Software with audit trail documentation
• Includes shipping and on-site instrument installation plus initial training
• Includes a one-year warranty
