About this file
This is a Bid Amendment document issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for Sheridan Correctional Center addressing vendor questions regarding Bid #26-426DOC-SHERI-B-52320 for the procurement of boiler tanks and pumps. The amendment provides clarifications on two primary items: Item 1 consists of a 50-gallon receiver with 39-gallon storage capacity serving two 18.4 HP boilers, while Item 2 consists of a 110-gallon receiver with 83-gallon storage capacity serving one 101 HP boiler. Item 1 requires a duplex boiler feed system with two 15 GPM pumps powered by 1/3 HP motors, operating on single-phase 208V at 20 amps, while Item 2 requires a simplex system with a single pump and includes a control panel with control circuit transformers and motor starters, operating on three-phase 208V at 20 amps. Both tanks are currently mounted on stands in horizontal configurations and serve low-pressure steam boilers with relief valves set at 15 PSIG or below.
The boiler feed units will operate as standard on/off systems controlled by boiler level controls rather than continuous operation. Both tanks will be installed in close proximity to their respective boilers, with Item 1 located approximately 6 feet above the boiler and 20 feet away horizontally, and Item 2 located 6 feet above with 15 feet of horizontal distance. The discharge pressure specifications require the pumps for Item 1 to overcome 15 PSIG boiler pressure, while Item 2 pumps must overcome 15 PSIG in addition to the specified head requirements. No additional control panels are required for Item 1, though Item 2's control panel requirement is clarified to include motor starters and transformers for the larger system.

IDOC – Sheridan Correctional Center – BOILER TANKS AND PUMPS Bid #26-426DOC-SHERI-B-52320 Amendment #1 Response to Vendor’s Questions to Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA)
Below are the responses to the questions that IDOC has received regarding the above BOA:
1. Vendor: Voltage?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): 1 phase, 208v, 20 amp Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): 3 phase, 208v, 20amp
2. Vendor: Are these feedwater tanks on stands or they on the ground?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): currently on stands Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): currently on stands
3. Vendor: Boilers BTU/HR rating?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): 615,000 Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): 3,400,000
4. Vendor: Do you need control panels with control circuit transformers and motor starters?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): No Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): Yes
5. Vendor: For item 2 you list a duplex unit with a single pump. Duplex units have two pumps. Please clarify.
Answer Item 1: Need 2 pumps/duplex unit Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): simplex (single pump)
6. Vendor: The descriptions for both Item 1 and Item 2 reference a “duplex boiler feed tank with single pump.” Can you please confirm whether these units are intended to be simplex, single-pump boiler feed units, or if the requirement is for duplex pump boiler feed systems?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): Duplex boiler feed system Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): simplex system (single pump)
7. Vendor: Both items call for a 15 GPM pump with a 1/3 HP motor. Can you please confirm the boiler horsepower of the boiler served by each feed unit, and verify whether the listed 15 GPM / 1/3 HP pump selection is correct for both systems?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): 2 boilers at 18.4 HP each Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): 101 HP
8. Vendor: Can you also confirm that these systems are serving low-pressure steam boilers, with the boiler safety relief valves set at 15 PSIG or less?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): yes relief valves set at 15psi Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): yes low pressure
9. Vendor: Please also confirm whether these are intended to operate as standard on/off boiler feed pumps controlled by the boiler level controls, rather than continuously running pumps.
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): yes on/off feed controlled by boiler level controls Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): standard on/off controlled by level controllers
10. Vendor: Please confirm that the boiler feed units will be installed near the boilers, with minimal discharge piping distance and minimal elevation change. We want to verify that there will not be any significant head loss from long piping runs, vertical lift, or additional fittings that would require a higher pump head or motor horsepower.
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): yes tank is closed to boiler about 6ft above tank and 20ft to boiler Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): 6’ of rise and 15’ over
11. Vendor: For the boiler feed unit, would you prefer a vertical or horizontal tank configuration?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): horizontal Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): horizontal
12. Vendor: Discharge pressure needed from the pumps?
Answer Item 1 (50 gallon receiver/39 gallon storage): for 15psi boiler Answer Item 2 (110 gallon receiver/83 gallon storage): anything to overcome 15psi
