About this file
This document is a comprehensive construction specification manual for the South American Exhibit project at Miller Park Zoo in Bloomington, Illinois, prepared by the City of Bloomington's Office of the City Clerk. The project involves constructing a new exhibit space, with detailed specifications covering multiple construction disciplines including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The specifications were issued on November 29, 2021, and provide extensive technical requirements for contractors, including materials, installation methods, quality standards, and performance expectations for various building components such as concrete, masonry, roofing, piping, electrical systems, and life support infrastructure.
The project includes multiple alternate bid options, such as demolition of existing exhibit enclosures, installation of a 16' gazebo, replacement of concrete paths, roofing modifications, landscaping, and pedestrian barrier installation. The specifications also outline an allowance of $5,000 for potential soil replacement. The comprehensive document provides detailed technical guidance for contractors, including specific requirements for materials, installation techniques, testing protocols, and quality assurance measures. The project appears to be funded through municipal sources, with a focus on creating a specialized exhibit space that meets stringent technical and environmental standards for animal habitat construction.
