Town of Bristol
Tree Care and Maintenance Policy
1. A request must be made through the Town Administrators office by the Tree Warden, Bristol Resident, and or Town of Bristol Department personnel, unless deemed a public safety hazard and needs immediate action.
2. The request shall be taken by the office of the Town Administrator and sent via fax or email or telephone depending on the nature of the request.
3. The Tree Warden or qualified office personnel shall inspect the tree in question and via fax, email, or telephone call give a written report or oral report as to the condition of the tree to the Town Administrator’s office. The written report will consist of four categories.
• Priority 1
• Priority 2
• Priority 3
• No action required
Priority 1 shall deem to be an immediate tree care maintenance issue or a public safety issue
Priority 2 shall deem to be a tree care maintenance issue but not a public safety issue.
Priority 3 shall deem to be a tree care maintenance issue but can wait until all priority 1 and 2 issues have been resolved.
4. The Towns Administrator’s office will sign the request to start the work on the tree request unless it is an immediate public safety issue whereas the Tree Warden has the right by state law to remove a tree. The Tree Warden shall attempt to notify the resident unless it is an immediate safety issue. (Title 2, Agriculture and Forestry.
Chapter2-14, Tree Wardens, Section 2-14-8)
5. Notice shall be given to the resident/residents if a tree is deemed to be removed according to state law. Posting notice five days prior to removal of the tree to be removed or marking the tree with the posted notice.
6. When a request is made from a resident for a tree to be removed and is not a priority
1, the resident can request to have the wood after the Tree Warden approves the removal according to state law. If granted by the Tree Warden and Administration, the resident must remove all wood set aside by the Contractor removing the tree to their own private property. If some portion of the wood is discarded on the town’s property by the resident, then it could constitute a safety condition and in some cases a violation of the zoning ordinance and subject to notice and fine. The resident would be responsible for the removal of discarded wood on town property.
7. When the Tree Warden constitutes a tree an immediate public hazard and the tree is in the process of being removed, the resident can contact the contractor and request to obtain the wood. The same policy would be in effect as quoted in number 6.
NOTES:
1. Any variance from specifications must be noted in writing.
2. Amounts are to be shown in both words and figures.
3. All trees to be removed are marked according with the Town’s Tree Policy.
4. This particular bid for Municipal Stump Grinding and Tree Maintenance
Services is for 2 years.
