About this file

This is an addendum to a state and local contract opportunity issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Design and Construction, for the Big Shoals State Park Trail Bridge Replacement project (Bid No. BDC17-25/26). The addendum must be signed by contractors in acknowledgment of receipt and included with bid submissions to Brandon Williams, Contracts Specialist, at the Bureau of Design and Construction office in Tallahassee, Florida. Failure to include the signed addendum with the bid submission may result in bid rejection.

The addendum clarifies that DCOI (Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride) ground contact rating treatment can be substituted for CCA (Chromated Copper Arsenate) treatment on all glulam beams. DCOI is an arsenic-free alternative used in industrial wood preservation applications. Contractors must confirm the exact preservative system, retention level, and applicable treatment standard on all treatment certifications, as performance depends on achieving proper penetration and retention for the service environment and correct installation practices. All other terms and conditions of the original contract documents remain in full force and effect.

Question: Can DCOI ground contact rating be a substitute for CCA treatment for all the glulams?

Answer: Yes, DCOI can be used as an alternative but with the below listed precautions.

DCOI is used as an arsenic-free alternative in some industrial wood preservation applications. Depending on the supplier and specification language, you may also see closely related naming conventions; always confirm the exact preservative system, retention level, and applicable standard on the treatment certification. As with any preservative system, performance depends heavily on achieving the correct penetration/ retention for the service environment and on proper installation practices.

In all other respects, the contract documents of which this is an Addendum, and attachments relative thereto, shall remain in full force and effect.
