About this file
This document is a detailed base access and building location overview for a sodium battery installation project at Kirtland Air Force Base. The file provides specific instructions for contractor access, including operating hours for the delivery gate (Monday-Friday, 5:30 am to 3:00 pm MST), alternative Truman gate access procedures, and personnel access requirements such as valid U.S. identification and citizenship. Technical specifications include detailed measurements for existing battery racks in Building 498, which contain 24 cells across 8 shelves, with each cell estimated at 150 lbs, and rack dimensions of 78" height, 42" width, and 25" depth.
The document maps out precise routing between Building 1010 and Building 498, highlighting electrical outlet and inverter installation locations in adjacent rooms. Access protocols require base sponsorship through William Jennings, vehicle inspection, and strict personnel screening. The accompanying federal contract opportunity (Solicitation FA940125Q0023b) confirms the project involves removing existing lead-acid batteries, installing new sodium nickel battery strings in communication building 20449, replacing power inverters, and adding overhead electrical outlets, all under the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Nuclear Weapons Center's procurement.
