About this file

This document includes a federal contract solicitation and related files for a fuels mastication or chipping project. The solicitation is to reduce basal area and trees per acre in order to protect infrastructure from wildfire risk, increase the likelihood of less severe fires, and encourage the development of more open forest conditions with large old trees on the Badger Mountain area of the Pike-San Isabel National Forest in Colorado. Specifically, the project will reduce mid-closed forest structural stages through mastication or chipping, protect and encourage retention of large diameter and old trees as well as snags, and create a mosaic of forest structures that allow for low-severity fire and insect/disease impacts while safeguarding summit infrastructure on Badger Mountain. The contract area map and management objective details are provided in the associated files.
