Starting point and theory of change

➔ Provide opportunities for youth is a strategic priority.

➔ Migration is a common solution for many Guatemalan young people from urban and rural areas.

➔ These young people face structural and multisectoral challenges that exacerbate the lack of opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.

Questions and Answers

Thank you for your participation and interest in USAID projects

BAA-Guatemala-2015 Addendum No.: 001, Amendment No. 3

The Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS, by its acronym in English) was authorized on March 16, 2012.

It has a validity of five years: from 2012 to 2017.

Several consultations were conducted for its preparation with organizations representing different sectors: Government, non‐governmental, indigenous associations, private sector and academia.

It responds to the priorities of the Government of Guatemala; for example, the National Pact of Security and Justice, the Zero Hunger Plan, the National Reading Program, the Law of Climate Change, the Development Strategy of Low Emissions.

The Western Highlands Integrated Program (WHIP, for its acronym in English) is intended to support efforts to reduce poverty and chronic malnutrition in 30 municipalities in the Western Highlands. To improve economic growth and social development in these municipalities, USAID designed an integrated and coordinated program that includes interventions in health and education, agriculture and economic development, democracy and governance, adaptation to climate change and food security.

WHIP activities are concentrated in 30 municipalities in the departments of Huehuetenango, San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Totonicapan and Quiche.

HUEHUETENANGO

1. Todos Santos Cuchumatanes, San Sebastian Huehuetango, Santa Cruz Barillas, Concepcion Husta, San Antonio Huista, La Democracia, Jacaltenango, La Libertad, Chiantla, Cuilco

SAN MARCOS

1. San Miguel Ixtahuacan, San Rafael Pie de la Cuesta, Sibinal, Tajumulco, Nuevo Progreso, San Jose el Rodeo, San Pablo, San Lorenzo

QUETZALTENANGO

1. San Juan Ostuncalco, Concepcion Chiquirichapa

TOTONICAPAN

1. Momostenango, Santa Lucia la Reforma, QUICHE

Uspantan, Cunen, Sacapulas, Chichcastenango, Nebaj, Cotzal, Chajul, Zacualpa

The Project Identifying Opportunities for Youth is limited to these five departments, although it will not restrict to 30 municipalities mentioned above.
