About this file

This is a salient characteristics attachment describing the technical specifications for an Acoustic Telemetry System to be procured by the U.S. Geological Survey. The system consists of 14 acoustic receivers, 14 hydrophones, 5 acoustic transmitters, 14 RS-232 extension cables, and 14 reference acoustic transmitters for monitoring fish movements. The acoustic receivers must be Juvenile Salmonid Acoustic Telemetry System (JSATS) compatible, shore-based autonomous units capable of collecting temperature, pressure, and accelerometer data. Each receiver shall operate from a 12 VDC external power source, include GPS monitoring with external antenna, maintain a continuously corrected real-time clock, and feature a frequency tolerance of ±0.5% or less with horizontal and vertical plane deviation of 4dB or less. The receivers must include a 32 GB memory card, NEMA type 4X enclosure with multiple communication ports, operational diagnostic LEDs, dimensions not exceeding 11.0" x 7.5" x 4.75", weigh no more than 3 lbs, operate across 0-50°C temperature range, and include applicable software for setup and operation.

The hydrophones must be waterproof, JSATS-compatible units with 50-foot cables and compatible connectors. The five acoustic transmitters shall be cylindrical, injectable units compatible with JSATS requirements, capable of at least 100 days of tag life after activation, utilizing Binary Phase Shifted Key pulse code techniques to achieve over 65,000 individual IDs, with user-configurable pulse rate intervals and duty cycles. The transmitters must embed temperature measurements, support hibernation modes, maintain message transmission lengths not exceeding 750 microseconds, operate across 0-31°C, and measure no larger than 0.59" x 0.13" weighing no more than 0.21 grams.
