About this file
This is a three-part technical specification for TYPAR® BuildingWrap, a weather-resistive barrier product for exterior wall construction.
The specification requires furnishing and installing a spunbonded polypropylene weather membrane with microporous coating on the exterior side of exterior wall sheathing. The barrier must meet specific performance standards including: Gurley Hill air permeability exceeding 2,500 sec/100cc, water vapor transmission of 9-15 perms per ASTM E96-90 Method A, water penetration resistance greater than 500 cm hydrostatic head per AATCC-127, trapezoidal tear strength of 30/33 per ASTM D5733-9, air infiltration less than 0.02 L/S·M² at 75 PA, and a 24-hour dry indicator rating per ASTM D779. The approved manufacturer is TYPAR® Weather-Protection Membrane by Berry Global, Inc. Installation requires sealing all joints and penetrations with TYPAR® Construction Tape and approved fasteners (plastic cap nails or staples for wood/insulated sheathing, rust-resistant screws with washers for steel frame, and polyurethane-based sealant with masonry fasteners for masonry). All window and door penetrations must be flashed and sealed per ASTM 2112 and AAMA guidelines. The installed barrier must be airtight and free from holes, tears, and punctures, and must be covered with exterior cladding within six months of installation. The product carries a limited warranty as detailed on the manufacturer's website.
