SECTION 01 10 00 SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This work consists of providing all labor, materials, and equipment to replace the boardwalk and observation platform at Pa-Hay-Okee inside Everglades National Park. The work also includes modifications to the parking lot and other associated work.

B. The work site is at: 25.441 N Latitude and 80.784W Longitude. The site does not have a street address.

C. NPS Drawing Number 160/192,408 is incorporated as part of these specifications and included in the work of this project.

D. The work will be constructed under a single contract.

1.2 USE OF PREMISES AND WORK RESTRICTIONS

A. Use of Site: Limit use of the premises to the area immediately adjacent to the work site. Do not disturb portions of the site beyond the work area.

B. Preservation of Natural Features: Prevent damage to natural surroundings. Restore damaged areas, repairing or replacing damaged trees and plants, at no additional expense to the Government.

C. Preservation of Cultural Resources: No known archaeological resources are in the area of this construction. If previously unknown archaeological resources are discovered during the work of this project, the Contractor will immediately stop work in the area of discovery and notify the Contracting Officer. An equitable adjustment will be made following the Changes clause of the contract.

D. Start of Work Notification: At least two weeks prior to the start of on-site work, the Contractor shall notify the Contracting Officer of the intended start date. This will allow government personnel to conduct a final review the work site for any resource issues prior to the start of construction.

E. Threatened and Endangered Species: The following threatened or endangered species could be encountered in the project area: Wood Storks, Eastern Indigo Snakes, Bonneted Bats, Florida Panthers, and American Crocodiles.

1. All sightings of these species shall be reported to the Contracting Officer.

2. When an endangered species is present or observed on the work site, work shall be postponed until the individuals leave the area.

3. Follow the Standard Protection Measures for the Eastern Indigo Snake published by the U.S.

Fish and Wildlife Service, August 12, 2013.

4. At the beginning of each day, any open trenches or excavation shall be inspected for the presents of Eastern Indigo Snakes or other wildlife.

5. At the start of the project, all on-site employees shall receive training to identify threatened and endangered species which maybe encountered on the site.

F. Non-native species: To prevent the spread of non-native species into the park, the Contractor shall do the following:

1. Construction equipment brought to the site shall be cleaned of any foreign material which could contain non-native plants, seeds, animals or noxious weeks.

2. All materials (including fill dirt and aggregates) shall be free of non-native invasive plants and animals, and noxious weeds.

G. Erosion Control:

1. Erosion Control measures shall be in place before starting any earth disturbing activities.

2. Erosion control barriers shall include silt fence, fiber logs, and turbidity curtains depending on the nature of the area.

3. Trenching machines shall not be used for the installation of silt fence. The fence bottom shall be hand pressed into the soil or other method used to tightly hold the bottom against the soil.

H. Protection of the Public: Fence, barricade, or otherwise block off the immediate work area to prevent unauthorized entry.

I. On-Site Work Hours: Work shall be generally performed during normal business working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except when otherwise indicated. Requests for any work outside those hours, including weekends and holidays, must be submitted for approval at least 48 hours in advance.

J. Existing Utilities: There are no utilities in the work area of this project.

K. Hurricanes: The government requires closing of operations between 72 and 48 hours of anticipated landfall of a tropical storm or hurricane as determined by the National Park Service. All project materials will be adequately secured or removed from the site within that time frame.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The Contractor shall provide daily reports of construction activity. The form of the report is up to the Contractor, but the report shall include the following information:

1. Date

2. Project Title and Contract Number

3. Contractor’s name and On-site Superintendent’s name

4. General description of weather and ground conditions

5. Number of employees (including sub-contractors) working on-site. Employees shall be listed by job categories.

6. List of equipment working on-site.

7. Description of work performed

8. Any issues arising including disputes, unforeseen circumstances, differing site conditions, delays, accidents, etc.

B. Reports shall be e-mailed to the Contracting Officer on a weekly basis.

1.4 PRECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE:

A. Before start of construction, the Contracting Officer will arrange a meeting with the Contractor. The meeting agenda will include the following as a minimum: correspondence procedures, designation of responsible personnel, payments to the Contractor, park rules and regulations, construction schedule, submittals, and project closeout requirements.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. All submittals shall be transmitted electronically in PDF or MS Word format.

B. Pre-Construction Submittals:

1. Submit a Progress Schedule (normally in bar chart form) showing estimated starting and completion dates for each part of the work.

2. Submit a Schedule of Values showing the breakdown of the Contract amount into appropriate units of work. Include general condition costs, overhead, and profit in each part of the work and not as separate items. The Schedule of Values will form the basis for progress payments as provided for in the General Provisions.

3. Submit a safety plan per the accident prevention paragraph of this section.

B. Material Submittals:

1. All material submittals shall be transmitted using National Park Service form DSC-1(CS). No action will be taken on a submittal item unless accompanied by the transmittal form.

2. As specified in the individual sections, forward submittals to the Contracting Officer at least 21 days before need for approval.

3. The Government will return the submittals either approved, approved with notations, or disapproved.

C. Post Construction Submittals:

1. Project Record Drawings: Maintain one complete set of contract drawings. Clearly mark changes, deletions, and additions to show actual construction conditions. Show additions in red, deletions in green, and special instructions in blue.

1.6 ACCIDENT PREVENTION

A. Before on-site work begins, submit a written accident prevention plan containing the following:

1. Identification of personnel responsible for safety at and both corporate and project level including on-site personnel.

2. Emergency Response Plan including site specific emergency contact information and location of the nearest emergency room.

3. Outline of each phase of the work, the hazards associated with each major phase, and the methods proposed to ensure property protection and safety of the public, National Park Service personnel, and Contractor's employees.

B. The Contractor shall follow all federal, state, and local safety and health requirements

C. The Contractor shall report all accidents to the Contracting Officer as soon as possible and assist the Contracting Officer and other officials as required in the investigation of the accident.

1.7 CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS:

A. All materials, including borrow and aggregates, shall be Contractor furnished from outside the park.

1.8 DISPOSAL

A. All removed material including, soil and rock, becomes the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of outside the park.

1.9 FIELD VERIFICATION:

A. Field verify all new and existing dimensions affecting the work of this contract before ordering products. Any discrepancies between construction drawings, construction specifications, and field conditions shall be brought to the attention of the Contracting Officer before work is to be performed. Any work that is performed without notifying the Contracting Officer will be done at the contractor's own expense.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 FIRST AID FACILITIES

A. Provide adequate facilities for the number of employees and the type of construction at the site.

2.2 PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

A. Meet requirements of NIOSH and ANSI.

2.3 SANITARY FACILITIES

A. Sufficiently lighted and ventilated toilet facilities in weatherproof, sight proof, sturdy enclosures.

Place in approved locations secluded from public observation and convenient to work stations.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION AND FINAL INSPECTION

A. Before scheduling the final inspection, remove all tools, equipment, surplus materials, and rubbish.

At time of final inspection, project shall be thoroughly clean and ready for use.

B. Submit written certification that project, or designated portion of project, is substantially complete, and request in writing a final inspection. Contracting Officer will make an inspection within 10 days of receipt of request.

C. If the project is determined to be substantially complete, the Contracting Officer will prepare a list of deficiencies to be corrected before final acceptance and issue a Letter of Substantial Completion.

D. After all deficiencies have been corrected, a Letter of Acceptance will be issued.

SECTION 02 40 00

DEMOLITION AND VEGITATION TRIMMING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

A. The work of this section consists of demolition and removal of pavements, slabs, and structures.

The section also includes vegetation trimming and removal.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with safety requirements for demolition, ANSI Al0.6-90.

1.3 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Keep dust to a minimum at removal site. Use sprinklers or water trucks as necessary.

B. Ensure safety of persons in demolition area. Provide temporary barricades as required.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 SELECT BACKFILL

A. Fine, readily compactable soil or granular material, free from frozen lumps, stones larger than 2 inches, highly plastic clay, and organic or other objectionable material. Excavated material meeting this requirement shall be used before importing material.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 WOOD AND STEEL STRUCTURES

A. Completely remove structures including pulling all piles and posts.

3.2 CONCRETE AND MASONRY

A. Remove to a minimum of 6 inches below grade. Break remaining portions to permit drainage.

3.3 PAVEMENT AND SLABS

A. Scarify or rip bituminous pavement; break up concrete. Saw cut material adjacent to new construction. Remove completely.

3.4 VEGITATION TRIMMING

A. Limit trimming of vegetation needed for construction access to 2 feet outside the construction footprint.

B. Coordinate with the Contracting Officer to identify trees and shrubs to be trimmed in the vista clearing area.

C. To cut back vegetation, primary use thinning cuts where branches to be removed are cut back to the collar at the branch’s base.

D. For thick tree limbs, use the 3-cut method to prevent damage to the bark.

E. Make cuts just to the outside of the collar (the stem tissue around the base of the branch), but without leaving a stub.

3.5 SALVAGE

A. All salvaged material remains the property of the Government. Store as directed by Contracting Officer.

3.6 DISPOSAL

A. Dispose of unsuitable and excess material outside the park.

SECTION 03 30 00 CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

A. This work shall consist of placing cast in place concrete.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. General:

1. Work shall conform to all requirements of ACI 301, except as modified by the requirements of these Contract Documents.

2. Substitute the term "Contracting Officer" for the terms "Owner," "Architect/Engineer," and

"Engineer/Architect" wherever used in ACI 301.

B. Concrete:

1. Furnish concrete under Option C, ASTM C94, whereby the manufacturer assumes full responsibility for the selection of the proportions for the concrete mixture within the general parameters specified in this section.

C. Testing:

1. The Contractor shall be responsible for all concrete testing, including testing identified as being the responsibility of the "Owner" in ACI 301.

2. The Contractor shall make two test cylinders for each day concrete is placed. Cylinders shall be broken at a certified testing laboratory and results provided to the Contracting Officer within 48 hours of the break.

D. Rebar:

1. Rebar details not shown on the contract drawings shall conform to CRSI Manual of

Standard Practice.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. As specified in Section 01 10 00.

B. Provide the concrete mix design including the: strength; water cement ratio; weight per cubic yard of cement, aggregates, and water; sieve analysis of aggregates; and product information on any admixtures used.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 FORMWORK AND FORM ACCESSORIES

A. Form Facing Materials:

1. Forms in contact with concrete shall produce a smooth form finish.

2. Footings that are to be buried may be placed against compacted earth formed sides.

2.2 REINFORCEMENT

A. Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A767, Grade 60.

2.3 CONCRETE

A. Cementitious Material Content: Cementitious material may be a blend of portland cement and fly ash. Minimum cementitious material content, 564 pounds per cubic yard.

B. Portland Cement: ASTM C150.

C. Fly Ash: ASTM C618, Class F. Fly ash not to exceed 15 percent of total cementitious material content by weight.

D. Maximum Size of Coarse Aggregate: 3/4 inch.

E. Slump: 3 to 4 inches unless a water reducing admixture is used. If a water reducing admixture is used, the slump can be higher but must be in the range specified on the approved Concrete Mix Design.

F. Maximum Water - Cementations Material Ratio: 0.50.

G. Strength: 28-day compressive strength shall be a minimum of 4,000 psi.

H. Maximum Concrete Temperature: The temperature of concrete at time of delivery shall not exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

I. Chloride Ion Content: Chlorides are not permitted.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

A. Notify Contracting Officer at least 24 hours in advance of any concrete placement. Do not place concrete until Contracting Officer has accepted pre-placement activities.

B. All tools, supplies, equipment and materials are to be on site before beginning placement of concrete. Keep a spare vibrator, of the appropriate size, on the job site during all concrete placing operations.

C. The forms can be removed and the structure backfilled once the concrete strength is determined to be at least 50% of the 28-day design strength specified in this section.

PMIS 224713 STRUCTURAL STEEL

SECTION 05 12 00 STRUCTURAL STEEL

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 GENERAL

A. This section included furnishing and installing a steel structure. The intent is that the structural pieces are shop fabricated and galvanized to the extent that the structure can be bolted together in the field without cutting or welding.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Provide as specified in Section 01 10 00.

B. Erection and Erection Bracing Drawings: Submit for record purposes. Indicate the sequence of erection, temporary shoring and bracing. The erection drawings must conform to AISC 303.

C. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings for approval prior to fabrication. Prepare per AISC 303, AISC 326 and AISC 325. Fabrication drawings must not be reproductions of contract drawings. Include complete information for the fabrication and erection of the structure's components, including the location, type, and size of bolts, welds, member sizes and lengths, connection details, blocks, copes, and cuts. Use AWS A2.4 standard welding symbols.

D. Certifications: Submit certifications that the following products meet specifications:

1. Steel structural members

2. Bolts, Nuts, and Washers

E. Fabricator’s Certification: Submit AISC Structural Steel Fabricator quality certification.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. AISC Quality Certification: Work must be fabricated by an AISC Certified Structural Steel Fabricator, in accordance with AISC 207, Category BU.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Provide structural steel systems including materials, installation, workmanship, fabrication, assembly, erection, inspection, quality control, and testing in accordance with AISC 303.

2.2 STRUCTURAL STEEL

A. Wide Flange and WT Shapes, ASTM A992, 50 ksi.

B. Angles, Channels and Plates, ASTM A36

C. Structural Steel Tubing: ASTM A500, Grade C

2.3 FABRICATION

A. Fabrication must be per the applicable provisions of AISC 303. Fabrication and assembly must be done in the shop to the greatest extent possible. Punch, sub-punch and ream, or drill bolt holes perpendicular to the surface of the member.

B. Shop splices of members between field splices will be permitted only where indicated on the Contract Drawings. Splices not indicated require the approval of the Contracting Officer.

C. Prior to erection, identify members by affixing embossed tags to hot-dipped galvanized members.

D. Welds: A Certified Welding Inspector must perform visual inspection on 100 percent of all welds. Document this inspection in the Visual Weld Inspection Log. Submit certificates indicating that certified welding inspectors meet the requirements of AWS QC1.

2.4 GALVANIZING

A. ASTM A123 for structural steel members. Galvanize after fabrication.

2.5 BOLTS, NUTS, AND WASHERS

A. Bolts: ASTM F3125, Grade A325, Type 1, hot-dipped galvanized.

B. Nuts and washers: Grade and Style as specified in the applicable ASTM bolt standard, hot-dipped galvanized.

C. Hot-dipped galvanizing shall be per ASTM A153.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

A. Erection of structural steel must be per the applicable provisions of AISC 303.

The Contractor shall be the Owners Designated Representative for Construction (ODRC) referred to in AISC 303.

3.2 STORAGE

A. Store the material out of contact with the ground in such manner and location as to minimize deterioration.

3.3 CONNECTIONS

A. Do not tighten anchor bolts set in concrete with impact torque wrenches. Holes must not be cut or enlarged by burning. Bolts, nuts, and washers must be clean of dirt and rust, and lubricated immediately prior to installation.

3.4 HIGH-STRENGTH BOLTS

A. Provide direct tension indicator washers in all ASTM F3125, Grade A325 bolted connections.

Bolts must be installed in connection holes and initially brought to a snug tight fit. After the initial tightening procedure, fully tension bolts, progressing from the most rigid part of a connection to the free edges.

B. Fastener components shall be protected from dirt and moisture in closed containers at the site of the installation. Fastener components that are not incorporated into the work shall be returned to protected storage at the end of the work shift.

C. Installation of Direct Tension Indicator Washers (DTIW): Where possible, install the DTIW under the bolt head and tighten the nut. If the DTIW is installed adjacent to the turned element, provide a flat washer between the DTIW and nut when the nut is turned for tightening, and between the DTIW and bolt head when the bolt head is turned for tightening.

D. Provide flat washers under all nuts and bolts-heads that are turned for tightening to protect the galvanizing on the structural members.

3.5 GALVANIZING REPAIR

A. Repair damaged galvanized coatings using ASTM A780 zinc rich paint for galvanizing damaged by handling, transporting, cutting, welding, or bolting. Do not heat surfaces to which repair paint has been applied.

3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Field inspect all direct tension indicator washers in place to verify that they have been compressed sufficiently as required by ASTM F959. Submit a direct tension indicator washer inspection report to the Contracting Officer.

SECTION 05 73 00 CABLE RAILING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes: Stainless steel cable and fittings for railing infill.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Provide as specified in Section 01 10 00.

1. Product Data for the cable and all fittings.

2. Provide a shop drawing showing the cable layout

3. Samples: Minimum 12 inch (300 mm) length of cable and each fitting and accessory proposed for the Project. Submit items in specified finish.

4. Manufacturer’s Installation Instructions for the cable system.

5. Maintenance Instructions for the cable system,

a. Manufacturer’s recommendation for periodic checking and adjustment of cables to maintain uniform cable tension.

b. Manufacturer’s recommendation for periodic cleaning to remove accumulated dirt, debris, and stains.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Qualifications: Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum five years’ experience in producing cable assemblies of the type specified.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Follow manufacturer’s instructions.

1.5 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty: Stainless steel cables and connectors – 10-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURER

A. Feeney, Inc. Oakland, CA or approved equal.

2.2 MATERIALS

A. Cables: 1/8-inch diameter, Type 316 stainless steel, 1x19 construction, polished finish, commercial, dry grade.

B. Fittings: Quick-connect turnbuckle style, Type 316 stainless steel, mill finish, fitting shall act as a turnbuckle to tighten the cable.

C. Sleeves: Type 316 Stainless steel

D. Accessories: Grommets, bushings, beveled washers, and additional accessories as recommended by manufacturer for installation conditions.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Take field measurements and compare installation conditions to shop drawings. Notify manufacturer if field measurements vary from shop drawings.

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Follow manufacturer’s installation instructions.

B. Install a quick-connect turnbuckle type fitting at both ends of each cable for tensioning. Adjust tension equally at both ends of the cable.

C. Install sleeves at all post cable penetrations.

D. Isolate dissimilar metals with grommets or bushings.

3.3 CLEANING

A. Clean cables thoroughly using synthetic scotch type pads and hot soapy water (or denatured alcohol) to remove residual lubricants; rinse thoroughly with clear water and wipe dry.

SECTION 06 10 00 CARPENTRY

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 DESCRIPTION

A. The work of this section consists of carpentry work including installing wood piles and painting the observation deck ceiling.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. As specified in Section 01 10 00.

B. Samples: Decking showing face texture and color. Deck Screws showing head color.

C. Manufactures Literature: Composite Decking and deck screws.

D. Warrantee: Provide manufacture's written warrantee for the composite decking.

E. Certification: Manufactures certification that the lumber and piles are treated to the retention specified.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Identify lumber and plywood by official grade mark.

B. Lumber: Grade stamp containing, where applicable, symbol of grading agency, rules under which graded, mill number or name, grade of lumber, species or species grouping, and condition of seasoning.

C. Plywood: APA grade trademark, including type, grade, class, identification or span rating, and inspection and testing agency mark.

1.4 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

2.5 ROUGH HARDWARE

A. Bolts for Timber Construction: ASTM A307, Hot Dip Galvanized per ASTM F2329 or Al53.

These bolts are not to be used for the structural steel tower.

B. Wood Construction Connectors: Simpson Strong Tie or approved equal. Approved equal shall be of the same metal thickness and have the same allowable loads at the Simpson Model Specified. Connectors shall be hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A123. Fasteners shall be hot-dip galvanized per ASTMA153.

C. Deck Screws: Star Drive C-Deck Screws as manufactured by Screw Products, Inc., Gig Harbor WA. Size: #10 x 2-3/4". Material: 305 Stainless Steel. Head designed for Composite lumber to eliminate mushrooming and leave a smooth, flush and countersunk finish. Head color shall be grey to match decking.

D. Miscellaneous Hardware: Hot Dipped Galvanized.

2.6 PAINTING

A. Caulk: Acrylic Latex, exterior grade, paintable.

B. Paint shall be Sherwin-Williams as specified or equal coating from an approved manufacturer.

C. Primer: Exterior Latex Wood Primer

D. Paint: A-100 Exterior Latex Flax. Color to match the gray decking material.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL INSTALLATION

A. Install rough carpentry work as shown.

3.2 WOOD PILES AND PILE WRAP

A. Install piles to the depth shown on the drawings.

B. Piles shall be installed plumb to within 1 inch in 10'.

C. Piles shall be installed without splices.

D. In rock, the pile shall be installed in a pre-drilled hole not greater that the pile diameter.

E. Install pile wrap from the mud line to 1’ above MHHW. Overlap seams a minimum of 6 inches.

Connect to the pile with stainless steel roofing nails spaced at 2-inch on center along all edges and seams.

3.3 BOLTS

A. Bolt holes shall be a minimum of 1/32" to a maximum of 1/16" larger that the diameter of the bolt.

B. Washers not less than standard cut shall be placed between the wood and bolt head and between the wood and nut.

1. Minimum edge distance (edge of board to center of bolt) shall be:

a. 1.5 times the diameter of the bolt (Loading Parallel to Grain)

b. 4 times the diameter of the bolt (Loading Perpendicular to Grain)

2. Minimum end distance (end of board to center of bolt)

a. 4 times the diameter of the bolt (Loading Perpendicular to Grain)

b. 4 times the diameter of the bolt (Compression Loading Parallel to Grain)

c. 7 times the diameter of the bolt (Tension Loading Parallel to Grain)

3.4 DECKING

A. Install composite decking per manufacturer's instructions.

B. Cut, drill, and rout composite wood using carbide tipped blades.

C. Do not locate fasteners closer than 1 inch from edges.

D. Install with a 3/8" to 1/2" gap between boards (side by side).

E. Install with a gap of 1/8" end to end.

F. Except for the platforms where the width exceeds 16 feet, a single board shall span the entire width of the boardwalk.

G. End to end butt joints on the platforms shall be aligned with the under laying double joists.

Joints shall be staggered so no two joints are adjacent.

3.5 ROOF SHEATHING

A. Follow recommendations of APA. Install plywood with face grain perpendicular to supports, and with end joints staggered and located over supports. Allow 1/8 inch space between panel ends and edges. Support edge joints with plywood panel clips centered between each support.

3.6 PAINTING

A. The only wood to be painted is the plywood ceiling of the observation tower.

B. Caulk all seams prior to painting.

C. Apply primer and two coats.

D. Follow manufactures installation recommendations.

SECTION 07 41 00 - STANDING-SEAM METAL ROOFING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. The work of this section consists of furnishing all labor, material, tools, equipment, and services for a standing seam metal roofing system. The Contractor will provide all components required for a complete roofing system that meets the roofing system performance requirements specified in this section. Components include panels, panel clips, trim, flashing, ridge, closures, sealants, fillers, underlayment, and any other required items.

1.2 SUBMITTALS

A. Provide as specified in Section 01 10 00.

B. Product Data: For each type of product.

1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for each type of panel and accessory.

C. Shop Drawings:

1. Include fabrication and installation layouts of metal panels; details of edge conditions, joints, panel profiles, corners, anchorages, attachment system, trim, flashings, closures, and accessories; and special details.

2. Accessories: Include details of the flashing, trim, and anchorage systems, at a scale of not less than 1-1/2 inches per 12 inches.

D. Qualification Data: For Installer.

E. Product Test Reports: Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) verifying this product is approved and has been designed to follow the Florida Building Code including the High Velocity Hurricane Zone of the Florida Building Code.

F. Sample Warranties: For special warranties.

G. Maintenance Data: For metal panels to include in maintenance manuals.

1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer Qualifications: An entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained and approved by manufacturer.

B. UL-Certified, Portable Roll-Forming Equipment: UL-certified, portable roll-forming equipment capable of producing metal panels warranted by manufacturer to be the same as factory-formed products. Maintain UL certification of portable roll-forming equipment for duration of work.

1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver components, metal panels, and other manufactured items so as not to be damaged or deformed. Package metal panels for protection during transportation and handling.

B. Unload, store, and erect metal panels in a manner to prevent bending, warping, twisting, and surface damage.

C. Stack metal panels horizontally on platforms or pallets, covered with suitable weathertight and ventilated covering. Store metal panels to ensure dryness, with positive slope for drainage of water. Do not store metal panels in contact with other materials that might cause staining, denting, or other surface damage.

D. Retain strippable protective covering on metal panels during installation.

1.5 FIELD CONDITIONS

A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit assembly of metal panels to be performed according to manufacturers' written instructions and warranty requirements.

1.6 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate metal panel installation with rain drainage work, flashing, trim, construction of soffits, and other adjoining work to provide a leakproof, secure, and noncorrosive installation.

1.7 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of metal panel systems that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. Structural failures including rupturing, cracking, or puncturing.

b. Deterioration of metals and other materials beyond normal weathering.

2. Warranty Period: 20 years from date of Substantial Completion.

B. Special Warranty on Panel Finishes: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair finish or replace metal panels that show evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within specified warranty period.

1. Exposed Panel Finish: Deterioration includes, but is not limited to, the following:

a. Color fading more than 5 Delta E units when tested according to ASTM D2244.

b. Chalking in excess of a No. 8 rating when tested according to ASTM D4214.

c. Cracking, checking, peeling, or failure of paint to adhere to bare metal.

2. Finish Warranty Period: 20 years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 ROOFING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Structural Performance: Provide metal panel systems capable of withstanding the effects of the following loads, based on testing according to ASTM E1592:

1. Wind Loads: As indicated on Drawings.

2. Other Design Loads: As indicated on Drawings.

3. Deflection Limits: For wind loads, no greater than 1/180 of the span.

B. Wind-Uplift Resistance: Provide metal roof panel assemblies that comply with UL 580 for wind-uplift-resistance class indicated.

1. Uplift Rating: UL 90.

C. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes by preventing buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects. Base calculations on surface temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat loss.

1. Temperature Change (Range): 120 deg F, ambient; 180 deg F, material surfaces.

2.2 STANDING-SEAM METAL ROOF PANELS

A. Provide factory-formed metal roof panels designed to be installed by lapping and interconnecting raised side edges of adjacent panels with joint type indicated and mechanically attaching panels to supports using concealed clips in side laps. Include clips, cleats, pressure plates, and accessories required for weathertight installation.

1. Aluminum Panel Systems: Unless more stringent requirements are indicated, comply with

ASTM E1637.

B. Vertical-Rib, Seamed-Joint, Standing-Seam Metal Roof Panels: Formed with vertical ribs at panel edges and a striated pan between ribs; designed for sequential installation by mechanically attaching panels to supports using concealed clips located under one side of panels, engaging opposite edge of adjacent panels, and mechanically seaming panels together.

1. Basis of Design Product: Petersen Aluminum Corporation; Tite-Loc Plus.

2. Aluminum Sheet: Coil-coated sheet, ASTM B209, alloy as standard with manufacturer, with temper as required to suit forming operations and structural performance required.

a. Thickness: 0.032 inch.

b. Surface: Striated finish.

c. Exterior Finish: Two-coat fluoropolymer.

d. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range.

3. Clips: Two-piece floating clips.

a. Material: 0.0250-inch thick, stainless steel sheet.

4. Joint Type: Double folded.

5. Panel Coverage: 18 inches.

6. Panel Height: 2.0 inches.

2.3 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A. Self-Adhering, High-Temperature Underlayment: Provide self-adhering, cold-applied, sheet underlayment, a minimum of 60 mils thick, consisting of slip-resistant, polyethylene-film top surface laminated to a layer of butyl or SBS-modified asphalt adhesive, with release-paper backing. Provide primer when recommended by underlayment manufacturer.

1. Thermal Stability: Stable after testing at 240 deg F; ASTM D1970.

2. Low-Temperature Flexibility: Passes after testing at minus 20 deg F; ASTM D1970.

3. Basis of Design Product: Mid-States Asphalt; QUIK-Stick HT.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS

A. Panel Accessories: Provide components required for a complete, weathertight panel system including trim, fasciae, corner units, clips, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items. Match material and finish of metal panels unless otherwise indicated.

1. Closures: Provide closures at eaves and ridges, fabricated of same metal as metal panels.

2. Backing Plates: Provide metal backing plates at panel end splices, fabricated from material recommended by manufacturer.

3. Closure Strips: Closed-cell, expanded, cellular, rubber or crosslinked, polyolefin- foam or closed-cell laminated polyethylene; minimum 1-inch thick, flexible closure strips; cut or premolded to match metal panel profile. Provide closure strips where indicated or necessary to ensure weathertight construction.

B. Flashing and Trim: Provide flashing and trim formed from same material as metal panels as required to seal against weather and to provide finished appearance. Locations include, but are not limited to, eaves, rakes, corners, bases, framed openings, ridges, fasciae, and fillers. Finish flashing and trim with same finish system as adjacent metal panels.

C. Panel Fasteners: Self-tapping screws designed to withstand design loads.

D. Panel Sealants: Provide sealant type recommended by manufacturer that are compatible with panel materials, are nonstaining, and do not damage panel finish.

1. Sealant Tape: Pressure-sensitive, 100 percent solids, gray polyisobutylene compound sealant tape with release-paper backing. Provide permanently elastic, nonsag, nontoxic, nonstaining tape 1/2 inch wide and 1/8 inch thick.

2. Joint Sealant: ASTM C920; elastomeric polyurethane or silicone sealant; of type, grade, class, and use classifications required to seal joints in metal panels and remain weathertight; and as recommended in writing by metal panel manufacturer.

3. Butyl-Rubber-Based, Solvent-Release Sealant: ASTM C1311.

2.5 FABRICATION

A. Fabricate and finish metal panels and accessories at the factory, by manufacturer's standard procedures and processes, as necessary to fulfill indicated performance requirements demonstrated by laboratory testing. Comply with indicated profiles and with dimensional and structural requirements.

B. On-Site Fabrication: Subject to compliance with requirements of this Section, metal panels may be fabricated on-site using UL-certified, portable roll-forming equipment if panels are of same

07 41 00-5 profile and warranted by manufacturer to be equal to factory- formed panels. Fabricate according to equipment manufacturer's written instructions and to comply with details shown.

C. Provide panel profile for full length of panel.

D. Fabricate metal panel joints with factory-installed captive gaskets or separator strips that provide a weathertight seal and prevent metal-to-metal contact, and that minimize noise from movements.

E. Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim: Fabricate flashing and trim to comply with manufacturer's recommendations and recommendations in SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" that apply to design, dimensions, metal, and other characteristics of item indicated.

1. Form exposed sheet metal accessories that are without excessive oil canning, buckling, and tool marks and that are true to line and levels indicated, with exposed edges folded back to form hems.

2. Seams for Aluminum: Fabricate nonmoving seams with flat-lock seams. Form seams and seal with epoxy seam sealer. Rivet joints for additional strength.

3. Sealed Joints: Form nonexpansion, but movable, joints in metal to accommodate sealant and to comply with SMACNA standards.

4. Conceal fasteners and expansion provisions where possible. Exposed fasteners are not allowed on faces of accessories exposed to view.

5. Fabricate cleats and attachment devices from same material as accessory being anchored or from compatible, noncorrosive metal recommended in writing by metal panel manufacturer.

a. Size: As recommended by SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" or metal panel manufacturer for application, but not less than thickness of metal being secured.

2.6 FINISHES

A. Protect mechanical and painted finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying a strippable, temporary protective covering before shipping.

B. Appearance of Finished Work: Variations in appearance of abutting or adjacent pieces are acceptable if they are within one-half of the range of approved Samples. Noticeable variations in same piece are unacceptable. Variations in appearance of other components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast.

C. Aluminum Panels and Accessories:

1. Two-Coat Fluoropolymer: AAMA 2605. Fluoropolymer finish containing not less than 70 percent polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions for seacoast and severe environments.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, metal panel supports, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.

1. Examine primary and secondary roof framing to verify that rafters, purlins, angles, channels, and other structural panel support members and anchorages have been installed within alignment tolerances required by metal roof panel manufacturer.

2. Examine solid roof sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing or blocking and that installation is within flatness tolerances required by metal roof panel manufacturer.

B. Examine roughing-in for components and systems penetrating metal panels to verify actual locations of penetrations relative to seam locations of metal panels before installation.

C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Miscellaneous Supports: Install subframing, furring, and other miscellaneous panel support members and anchorages according to ASTM C754 and metal panel manufacturer's written recommendations.

3.3 INSTALLATION OF UNDERLAYMENT

A. Self-Adhering Sheet Underlayment: Apply primer if required by manufacturer. Comply with temperature restrictions of underlayment manufacturer for installation. Apply at locations indicated below, wrinkle free, in shingle fashion to shed water, and with end laps of not less than 6 inches staggered 24 inches between courses. Overlap side edges not less than 3-1/2 inches. Roll laps with roller. Cover underlayment within 14 days.

3.4 INSTALLATION OF STANDING SEAM METAL ROOF PANELS

A. Install metal panels according to manufacturer's written instructions in orientation, sizes, and locations indicated. Install panels perpendicular to supports unless otherwise indicated. Anchor metal panels and other components of the Work securely in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement.

1. Shim or otherwise plumb substrates receiving metal panels.

2. Flash and seal metal panels at perimeter of all openings. Fasten with self-tapping screws.

Do not begin installation until air- or water-resistive barriers and flashings that will be concealed by metal panels are installed.

3. Install screw fasteners in predrilled holes.

4. Locate and space fastenings in uniform vertical and horizontal alignment.

5. Install flashing and trim as metal panel work proceeds.

6. Locate panel splices over, but not attached to, structural supports. Stagger panel splices and end laps to avoid a four-panel lap splice condition.

7. Align bottoms of metal panels and fasten with blind rivets, bolts, or self-tapping screws.

Fasten flashings and trim around openings and similar elements with self-tapping screws.

8. Provide weathertight escutcheons for pipe- and conduit-penetrating panels.

B. Fasteners: Aluminum Panels: Use aluminum or stainless steel fasteners for surfaces exposed to the exterior; use aluminum or galvanized-steel fasteners for surfaces exposed to the interior.

C. Anchor Clips: Anchor metal roof panels and other components of the Work securely in place, using manufacturer's approved fasteners according to manufacturers' written instructions.

D. Metal Protection: Where dissimilar metals contact each other or corrosive substrates, protect against galvanic action as recommended in writing by metal panel manufacturer.

E. Standing-Seam Metal Roof Panel Installation: Fasten metal roof panels to supports with concealed clips at each standing-seam joint at location, spacing, and with fasteners recommended in writing by manufacturer.

1. Install clips to supports with self-tapping fasteners.

2. Install pressure plates at locations indicated in manufacturer's written installation instructions.

3. Seamed Joint: Crimp standing seams with manufacturer-approved, motorized seamer tool so clip, metal roof panel, and factory-applied sealant are completely engaged.

F. Accessory Installation: Install accessories with positive anchorage to building and weathertight mounting, and provide for thermal expansion. Coordinate installation with flashings and other components.

1. Install components required for a complete metal panel system including trim, corners, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items. Provide types indicated by metal roof panel manufacturers; or, if not indicated, types recommended by metal roof panel manufacturer.

G. Flashing and Trim: Comply with performance requirements, manufacturer's written installation instructions, and SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual." Provide concealed fasteners where possible, and set units true to line and level as indicated. Install work with laps, joints, and seams that will be permanently watertight and weather resistant.

1. Install exposed flashing and trim that is without buckling and tool marks, and that is true to line and levels indicated, with exposed edges folded back to form hems. Install sheet metal flashing and trim to fit substrates and achieve waterproof and weather-resistant performance.

2. Expansion Provisions: Provide for thermal expansion of exposed flashing and trim. Space movement joints at a maximum of 10 feet with no joints allowed within 24 inches of corner or intersection. Where lapped expansion provisions cannot be used or would not be sufficiently weather resistant and waterproof, form expansion joints of intermeshing hooked flanges, not less than 1 inch deep, filled with mastic sealant (concealed within joints).

3.5 ERECTION TOLERANCES

A. Installation Tolerances: Shim and align metal panel units within installed tolerance of 1/4 inch in 20 feet on slope and location lines as indicated and within 1/8-inch offset of adjoining faces and of alignment of matching profiles.

3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to test and inspect metal roof panel installation, including accessories. Report results in writing.

B. Remove and replace applications of metal roof panels where tests and inspections indicate that they do not comply with specified requirements.

C. Additional tests and inspections, at Contractor's expense, are performed to determine compliance of replaced or additional work with specified requirements.

D. Prepare test and inspection reports.

3.7 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Remove temporary protective coverings and strippable films, if any, as metal panels are installed, unless otherwise indicated in manufacturer's written installation instructions. On completion of metal panel installation, clean finished surfaces as recommended by metal panel manufacturer. Maintain in a clean condition during construction.

B. Replace metal panels that have been damaged or have deteriorated beyond successful repair by finish touchup or similar minor repair procedures.
