About this file

This document is a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP) for a Luminar Iris Lidar Sensor for the Mobility Systems Branch (MSB) at the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). The Mobility Systems Branch requires one Luminar Iris Lidar Sensor to validate computational models for autonomous vehicle sensor performance, specifically for an Army Reimbursable for Robotic and Autonomous Systems project.

The sensor must meet precise technical specifications, including electrical requirements of 9-16V or 18-32V with approximately 25W power consumption, sensor capabilities like 250m range with <10% reflectivity, 0.05° minimum resolution, 120° horizontal field of view, and environmental durability standards including IP67 water and dust ingress rating. The required delivery timeline is 7 weeks after receipt of order (ARO), with delivery to be made to ERDC at 3909 Halls Ferry Rd., Vicksburg, MS 39180. The primary purpose is to collect real-world data for validating computationally developed sensor models used in ground vehicle autonomy research.

Luminar Iris – Lidar Sensor (MSB)

Description of Requirements:

Quantity: 1 Luminar Iris Lidar Sensor

Brand Name Justification: The Mobility Systems Branch (MSB) is in charge of evaluating the performance of various sensor types that are used in modern-day autonomous vehicles. MSB utilizes modeling and simulation to evaluate various technological aspects of ground vehicle autonomy, including sensor inputs and processing. Sensor models for a Luminar Iris lidar were already created using computational methods as required by an Army Reimbursable for Robotic and Autonomous Systems. For computational models to be considered trustworthy, those models must be validated with physical testing comparisons. A physical Luminar Iris lidar needs to be acquired to collect real-world data that will provide validation and verification requirements for the computationally developed model.

This sensor must have the following specifications:

Electrical:

9-16V or 18-32V Power consumption ~25 W

Sensor Specifications:

250m (<10% reflectivity) 280m Max Range 0.05° minimum horizontal/vertical resolution 120° Horizontal FoV 0-26° Vertical FoV 640 lines/sec (software configurable) 4 cm Range Precision 1-30 Frames/Sec 7 bits Reflectance Resolution <0.5m minimum measurement range 6 Max Range Returns per Point

Environmental Specifications:

Water and Dust Ingress: IP67 Vibration: ISO 16750-3 Shock: 60068-2-27 Performant Temperature: Full Performance -40° to 85°C Storage Temperature: -40° to 105° C

Required Delivery:

7 weeks ARO or sooner.

Delivery Location and POC:

ERDC

3909 Halls Ferry Rd.
