About this file

This document provides guidance for completing forest survey units under a federal contract for ecological surveys in Western Oregon. It outlines the software program, data entry screens, and required field to be collected for trees, regeneration, vegetation, downed woody material, and plot data. Surveyors will use a Panasonic Toughbook to navigate between units and collect data following population and measurement protocols. Tree data includes species, diameter, height, age, damage, and canopy metrics while regeneration requires counts and measurements of seedlings and saplings by species and plot. Vegetation surveys entail listing the most abundant shrub and herbaceous indicators and their percent cover. Downed woody material intersections and angles will also be recorded. The contract was awarded by the Bureau of Land Management under solicitation 140L4324Q0001 for ecological survey services across Western Oregon.
