About this file
This is a system schematic drawing for laboratory services and gases at a research facility operated by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Colorado School of Mines. The document illustrates the design and layout requirements for cryogenic bulk gas storage and distribution systems.
The bulk gas supplier (vendor) is required to provide design, service, installation, and all associated equipment for two 3,000-gallon bulk gas storage tanks—one for nitrogen (LN2/GN2) and one for argon (LAR/GAR). The Dewar fill stations must be metered and controlled with locked-out access to restrict usage and measure quantity. Delivery operations are constrained by the service yard location, which requires smaller delivery trucks, and an on-site inspection must be conducted prior to design and installation. All installation and operation must comply with local, national, and industry-specific codes, including NFPA 55 (Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code) and ASME Section VIII. The system includes ambient vaporizers, pipeline pressure control valves, pressure regulators, safety relief valves, source valves, and gas flow meters connected to the building automation system (BAS). Coordination with USGS, Colorado School of Mines, and the General Contractor is required to meet construction permit requirements. The schematic also references related systems including compressed air (P50-01), reverse osmosis (P50-02), and laboratory vacuum systems (P50-04).

Vendor (Bulk Gas Supplier) shall provide the design, service, installation, and all associated equipment for two 3000 gallon bulk gas storage tanks (Nitrogen and Argon) as shown per the below drawings. Coordination will be required to meet construction permit requirements with USGS, CO School of Mines, and the General Contractor.
The Dewar fill stations shall be metered and controlled (locked out) to control access and measure usage/quantity. Delivery of gases will be restricted to smaller trucks due to the location of the tanks in the service yard (see diagrams below) and an on-site inspection must be conducted prior to design and installation.
Installation and operation of tanks must adhere to all local, national, and industry specific codes to include but not limited to NFPA 55 (Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code) and ASME Section VIII.
