About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the renovation of Well No. 1 at the U.S. Geological Survey's Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) in Columbia, Missouri. The work involves the complete recondition and update of a deep well that serves as the primary water source for the facility. Well No. 1 is a vertical turbine pump rated at 700 gallons per minute, currently installed at 680 feet depth and powered by a 200 horsepower electric motor. The well has experienced a 70 percent capacity decrease due to biological buildup, necessitating renovation to restore operational capability and prevent negative impacts on research operations. During well failure, a backup well reduces water capacity by 200 gallons per minute.
The contractor shall provide all materials, labor, equipment, travel, and supervision necessary to complete the renovation. Construction work includes temporarily removing the existing pump and motor, installing a submersible pump to evacuate debris and fill, performing airburst treatment with a minimum pulse energy of 60 to loosen debris, removing all fill and debris from the well bottom, applying CERC-approved disinfection treatment with pH-balanced chlorine and bio-dispersing agents for a minimum of 18 hours, and permanently reinstalling the cleaned pump and motor. Additional installation requirements include a 10-inch check valve in the discharge line, automatic PVC drain line, drain back valve on the pump suction end, new reverse ratchet assembly on a 200 horsepower motor, and two flow monitors integrated into the facility's Automated Logic system. The contractor must provide operational and maintenance training to CERC staff, furnish a 12-month warranty on all materials, deliver a digital video of the completed scope, and conduct complete testing of valves, motor, and pump to verify proper production. The period of performance is 30 days from Notice-to-Proceed, with work conducted at CERC's facility during normal business hours of 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, subject to coordination requirements regarding utility interruptions and facility occupancy considerations.
