About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the renovation of Well No. 1 at the U.S. Geological Survey's Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) in Columbia, Missouri. The contractor shall renovate a deep well system that has experienced a 70% decrease in specific capacity due to biological buildup, requiring complete restoration to normal operating capacity within 30 days from notice to proceed. The well is a vertical turbine pump (Gould Model 9-11CHC-GP-MA-441-02) installed at 680 feet, rated at 700 gallons per minute, powered by a 200 HP three-phase 480-volt motor, with a 40-foot 10-inch discharge pipe extending to the water tower.
The contractor must provide all materials, labor, equipment, travel, and supervision to perform the following scope: temporarily remove the existing pump and motor; install a temporary submersible pump for debris evacuation; perform airburst treatment with minimum 60 pulse energy to loosen debris; remove all fill and debris from the well bottom; apply CERC-approved pH-balanced chlorine disinfection treatment with bio-dispersing agents for minimum 18 hours; install a 10-inch check valve and automatic PVC drain line in the discharge line; permanently reinstall the pump and motor; install a drain back valve on the pump suction end; install a new reverse ratchet assembly on the motor; and install two 6-inch flow meters (one per tower) integrated into the existing Automated Logic system. Additionally, the contractor must produce all shop and construction drawings, provide operational and maintenance training to CERC staff, deliver a 12-month warranty on all materials, provide video documentation of completed work, and conduct complete testing of valves, motor, and pump. The contractor is responsible for scheduling work during normal facility hours (7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday), providing five business days advance notice for any utility interruptions with a maximum 24-hour power disruption per instance, obtaining all necessary licenses and permits, and maintaining site safety and facility access coordination with the Facility Manager and USGS Technical Liaison.

U. S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) 4200 New Haven Road Columbia, Missouri 65201
STATEMENT OF WORK
WELL NO. 1 RENOVATION
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
a. INTRODUCTION. The Department of the Interior (DOI), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) 4200 New Haven Road, Columbia, MO 65202 has a requirement to recondition and update Well No. 1.
b. BACKGROUND. The Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) requires an update/recondition to a deep well at CERC. The well, referred to herein as Well No. 1, is rated to pump 700 gallons per minute (GPM). Well #1 is the primary source of research water for our facility. During the primary well failure, we use our back-up well that reduces our water capacity by 200 gallons/minute. This forces us to abridge water usage and can cause a negative impact on research conducted. Well No.1 has experienced a 70% decrease in specific capacity causing motor failures and loss of research abilities. This is due to biological buildup in the well.
c. DEFINITION/APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS.
i. Pic 1
d. SCOPE. The contractor shall provide all materials, labor, equipment, travel, and supervision necessary to perform the renovations on Well No. 1.
II. WORK REQUIREMENTS
a. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
i. Existing Site Conditions.

2. 40 foot, 10-inch discharge pipe extends to the top of the water tower.
3. Current water pumping level is 660 feet.
ii. CONSTRUCTION.
1. The purpose of this work is to restore the research facility's well system to normal operating capacity. The contractor shall perform all cleaning and restoration activities in accordance with the well system's manufacturer's published recommendations and accepted industry practices. The contractor is responsible for selecting appropriate methods, materials, and procedures consistent with the manufacturer's guidance to safely and effectively remove biological buildup and improve system performance. Upon completion, the contractor shall verify that the work has been completed in compliance with manufacturer recommendations and that the well is operating as intended.
2. Temporarily remove the current vertical turbine pump and motor.
3. Temporarily install a submersible pump used to evacuate debris and fill.
4. Use airburst treatment with a minimum Pulse Energy of 60 to loosen all debris inside the well.
5. Remove all fill and debris from the bottom of the well.
6. Use a CERC-approved disinfection treatment containing pH-balanced chlorine treatment with bio-dispersing agents to stop any bacterial growth for a minimum of 18 hours.
7. Installation of 10” check valve into discharge line.
8. Installation of automatic PVC drain line from discharge line.
9. Permanent installation of the pump and motor after cleaning of the well.
10. Installation of drain back valve on suction end of pump.
11. Installation of new reverse ratchet assembly on 200hp motor.
a. The reverse ratchet assembly will go onto the new motor.
12. Installation of two flow monitors. One on each discharge pipe of the tower. Flow monitors shall be integrated into current Automated Logic system.
