About this file
This document is a detailed specification for a Sandstone Purchase by Zion National Park's Division of Facility Management, Roads and Trails Maintenance. The specifications outline precise requirements for sandstone rock, including building stone and flagstone with specific quantity, size, and quality parameters. Required stone types include building stone in 5", 6", 9", and 12" height measurements, with width ranges of 14"-24", and flagstone 2"-3" thick between 9-12 square feet. Critical technical specifications mandate that all rock must have at least one natural/broken face, 14" depth, 90-degree squared ends, and be within a half-inch of specified tolerances.
Technical requirements further specify sandstone must match Southwest Strata colors (Kayenta, Navajo, Moenkopi, Lower Jurassic era), have a minimum density of 135 pounds per cubic foot, and maximum absorption of 5% by weight. Potential suppliers must provide samples for color and quality verification by the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). Total quantity requested is 170 tons of building stone and 30 tons of flagstone, with delivery required within 150 days of award to the Zion National Park Coal Pits Maintenance Yard in Rockville, Utah. Shipping costs, including loading charges, are to be included in the price, with park staff handling unloading.
