Specifications Automatic Livestock Feed System

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Background and Purpose:

Scientists at the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) are developing scientific information and new technology to solve high priority problems for the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries. As part of the effort, they require an automatic livestock feed system (smart feeders) to monitor feed intake on an individual animal basis.

These data will be used to quantify genetic variation and identify genomic regions associated with feed intake to improve efficiency and sustainability of livestock production in the plains area.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

2.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

The requirement is for six (6) feed bins total. The feeders shall have the following capabilities:

Wifi and cellular capabilities to wirelessly sync with and transmit data to the server as well as USB compatible ports for collection of data at the unit (all 6 bins).

Ability to adapt to an AC power system (all 6 bins) System to monitor individual animal intake with RFID reader (all 6 bins) System to exclude animals from the feed bin with a variable force gate exclusion system (0 to 1200 lbs; 2 bins) Ability to access and download raw data files (all 6 bins) Self-contained (all 6 bins) Minimum 12.3 cubic feet feed bins on load cells for accurate and precise weight measurement of feed disappearance (all 6 bins) Online control interface (all 6 bins) Should include one-year service contract

3.0 Deliverable/Schedule/Address:

4.0 Performance Requirement Measures:
