About this file

This document is a Single Source Justification for the replacement of two identical Sim Flo 6" pumps and 50 HP motors for the golf course irrigation system at a military installation. The existing pumps and motors were purchased and installed in 2014, but are now experiencing issues with the pump impellers. Replacement of the motors and pumps is required to maintain the sprinkler system and prevent damage to the golf course.

The related federal contract opportunity is for the purchase of two Sim Flo Vertical Turbine Pumps, Model OLS-SW12L-3L, including shipping, startup, and training. The work will be performed at Cannon AFB, and installation will be completed by military members. Funds are not currently available for this effort, and the government reserves the right to cancel the solicitation. The solicitation number is FA485524Q0072.

The Golf Course irrigation system has two (2) each identical Sim Flo 6" pumps and 50 HP motors. These motors and pumps circulate water to the Golf Course sprinkler system, which encompasses the entire Golf Course Complex. The original motor pumps were purchased and installed in 2014 and run daily to date. Both motors and pumps are now experiencing pump impeller problems. The motor pump failures will shut down the entire sprinkler system and can potentially kill the grass on the greens, tee boxes and fairways making the course unplayable.

Purchase and replacement of new motors and pumps is the only available option.

The replacement of the motors and pumps must be identical to the existing motors and pumps for a variety of reasons. They must operate at the same pressure as the existing motors and pumps to operate the sprinkler heads properly, the materials of construction must be compatible (to avoid both water contamination and pump corrosion), it must dimensionally mate (all-welded piping suction and discharge locations and configurations, and pump/motor mounting, all within very limited space), and electrical power and controls must be of the same configuration for direct tie-in. All these criteria must be met in order to be able to physically install the new motors and pumps. Based on internet searching, it appears that only an exact Make (Sim Flo Vertical Turbine Pump), Model (OLS-SW12L-3L), and configuration of motors and pumps will meet all these requirements, and any other motor pump would require total system redesign.
