About this file

This document is an Environmental Inspection Services report for Building 1 at the Marion Veterans Affairs Medical Center, conducted by Alliance Environmental Group on November 2-4, 2020. The comprehensive inspection identified several hazardous materials requiring abatement, including:

Asbestos-containing materials: Black mastic associated with 12" x 12" floor tile (approximately 12,300 square feet), gray exterior caulk (1,120 linear feet), thermal system insulation (225 linear feet), and thermal system insulation debris (250 square feet). Lead-based paint was found on various surfaces throughout the building, including plaster walls, doors, frames, and trim, totaling approximately 7,000 square feet of peeling/delaminated paint. Additional hazardous materials cataloged include 160 light ballasts, 230 fluorescent bulbs, 20 exit signs, and 17 smoke detectors. The report also revealed fungal air samples with high levels of Aspergillus/Penicillium spores in some rooms and recommended appropriate personal protective equipment and careful removal procedures during renovation.
