Digital Talking Book (DTB)
The NLS Digital Talking Book (DTB) consists of a set of audio files (the book itself) and additional files in compliance with ANSI/NISO Standard Z39.86 – 2002. The main additional files include a Package File (OPF) containing metadata, a Navigation Control File (NCX) containing pointers to items in the book such as chapter headings, and a SMIL Synchronization File listing the locations of the audio clips. In addition, a few small audio files, such as an annotation describing the book, must be created and added. Please see the specifications for a detailed description of the structure of a DTB. Commercial software is available for creation of the files needed, or a contractor may choose to create their own software.
