1. Scope

This specification defines the requirements for the package file delivered to the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, Library of Congress (NLS). Digital talking-books (DTB) produced for NLS shall be packaged and delivered according to the requirements of this specification.

2. Reference Documents

The following documents and publications form a part of this specification. In the event of conflict between the documents and publications referenced herein and the content of this specification, the content of this specification shall be considered a superseding requirement.

3. Deliverable Package Requirements

A single ZIP file shall be delivered to NLS.

The deliverable package ZIP file shall be an uncompressed storage container, ZIP compression is prohibited.

The deliverable package ZIP file shall be readable by the UNIX program “unzip” version 5.3.2

3.1. Contents of the Deliverable Package

The deliverable package file shall contain the following files:

a) A single ZIP file containing the unprotected digital talking-book (DTB) files. The ZIP file shall contain no other files or folders.

b) A single ZIP file containing the protected digital talking-book (PDTB). The ZIP file shall contain no other files or folders.

c) All WAV files, including a headings WAV file generated in the DTB production process.

Note: WAV files are not required for magazine deliverable packages.

All ZIP files shall be uncompressed.

All ZIP files shall be readable by the UNIX program unzip version 5.3.2.

No other files or directories are acceptable in the deliverable package.

3.2. File Names

All alphabetic characters shall be lowercase.

The production identifier, including the prefix, assigned to the DTB according to section 3.1.1 of NLS specification 1203 (current version) shall be used for the file names as specified below.

Note: Magazines distributed through the “Magazines on Cartridge” duplication program shall include the edition identifier appended to the production identifier for the file names specified below.

The deliverable package file shall be named “x.pkg.zip” where “x” is the production identifier.

The contents of the deliverable package file shall be named as follows:

a) The ZIP file containing the unprotected digital talking-book (DTB) files shall be named “x.dtb.zip,” where “x” is the production identifier.

b) The ZIP file for the protected digital talking-book (PDTB) files shall be named “x.pdtb.zip,” where “x” is the production identifier.

c) The source WAV files shall be named with the production identifier according to the requirements of NLS specification 1202 or 1208.

4. Delivery Requirements

4.1. Delivery System

The deliverable package file as required in section 3 shall be delivered to NLS using the Transfer Portal delivery system at the following URL:

https://transfer.nlsbph.org/TransferPortal/upload.html

4.2. Access Requirements

An NLS Single Sign-On account is required to use the Transfer Portal. To obtain access the producer shall submit an access request application to NLS containing the following information:

• Personnel Details:

o First Name o Last Name o Email Address o Phone Number

• Contract Details:

o Producer Name o Producer Number o COR (if applicable) o Final Delivery Date of Contract (if applicable)

• Company Details:

o Physical Address o CIDR IP Range / IP Address(es) for Whitelisting

The producer shall update NLS regarding changes to the producer’s CIDR IP Range or IP address(es).
