About this file

This is an instruction document for formatting National Library Service (NLS) Information Guides as part of a braille and tactile embossing services contract. The document specifies formatting requirements for publications that will be converted to braille and related accessible formats.

The instructions establish specific formatting standards for information guides, including requirements for centered major headings and detailed guidelines for annotated address lists. Annotated address lists must include organization names and addresses formatted at specific tab stops (1-3), with descriptive text placed at tab stop 5-3, preceded by blank lines between entries. Additional blank lines are required when entries span multiple print or braille pages. These formatting specifications ensure consistency and readability across braille transcriptions and eBraille (.brf) file production for the Library of Congress National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled, which publishes approximately 25 new or revised publications annually containing textual content, bibliographic citations, and organizational contact information.
