Raw Duplicating Microfilm

C.1. OVERVIEW / BACKGROUND.

The Library of Congress (Library) Preservation Directorate requires contract support to purchase microform supplies. Preservation Reformatting Division provides access to at risk Library materials by converting items to new formats such as microfilm. The Library provides microfilm for customers and in-house custodial divisions for service copies. In the event that a microform gets damaged or lost, the Preservation Directorate will use the supplies to create a duplicate microform. Duplicates of the master negative and the archival get damaged and will require duplication as needed. The purpose of microfilming is to aid in preserving the information, reproduce copies for reading rooms and duplication orders for external patrons.
