g. Where rust is exceeding heavy, apply 2 coats of rust inhibiting primer to thoroughly penetrate and blocked the surface to be painted.
h. All surfaces coated shall be prepared to permit a sound sustaining bond between surfaces and primer coat.
i. Brush off any loose powder before painting application. All surfaces deleterious to the creation of that bond between surfaces and specified coatings shall be removed.
j. When using spray application, use a 50% overlap with each pass to avoid holidays, bare areas, and pin holes.
Cross spray at a right angle.

i. Due to the sensitivity of the facility doing research, all paint materials shall have low Volatile Organic Chemical (VOC) content.
j. Mix topcoat paint thoroughly to a uniform consistency without any lumps with slow speed power agitator prior to use.
k. Apply 2 coats of paint. Do not paint in between coats until surfaces are moisture free. Allow sufficient time in between coats to dry at least 24 hours prior to receiving the next coat.
l. When using spray application, use a 50% overlap with each pass to avoid holidays, bare areas, and pin holes.

e. Gutters and downspouts must be properly sloped to provide adequate flow gradient to the nearest storms and roof drains.
f. If joints in gutters must be overlapped 1", riveted on 2" centers and soldered if the metal can be soldered. With metals that cannot be soldered, a compatible sealant must be continuously applied within a 1" lapped joint and the sealed lap must be riveted on 1" centers. All rivet applications must receive sealant after installation.
Lapping joints in the direction of flow is preferred.
