About this file
This is a Section 504 Compliance Assurance document issued by the County of San Mateo Contract Compliance Committee on August 5, 2013, establishing compliance requirements for contractors working with the San Mateo Medical Center on the Nursing Evidence-Based Clinical Education & Procedures contract opportunity. The document requires all contractors to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, along with all applicable Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations, guidelines, and interpretations. The assurance is binding on the contractor, its successors, transferees, and assignees, and must be executed by an authorized official prior to contract award. The contractor must certify the accuracy of submitted information and confirm the identity and contact details of its designated Section 504 compliance coordinator if the organization employs 15 or more persons.
Contractors employing fewer than 15 employees are exempt from designating a specific Section 504 coordinator but remain subject to all other compliance obligations. Those employing 15 or more persons must identify a compliance coordinator by name and provide the coordinator's contact information on the assurance document. The DHHS regulations provide an exception allowing recipients with fewer than 15 employees to refer individuals with disabilities to alternative accessible providers if facility modifications would require significant alterations to existing infrastructure, though this does not relieve the contractor of its primary obligation to ensure compliance with accessibility standards applicable to the contract.
