About this file
This is an Insurance Requirements document from the City of Long Beach Purchasing Division outlining mandatory insurance coverage for contractors bidding on City contracts. The document specifies that contractors must obtain proof of insurability from an insurance company with an 8 rating (as specified in City AR 8-27) from AM Best Company before bid submission, with failure to provide this proof resulting in bid disqualification. Contractors must maintain all required insurance at their own expense until completion of performance and acceptance by the City.
The insurance requirements include Comprehensive General Liability coverage of $1,000,000 combined single limit per occurrence and $2,000,000 General Aggregate, with the City named as additional insured; Automobile Liability coverage of $500,000 combined single limit per accident; and Worker's Compensation as required by California Labor Code. For admitted insurers in California, a current financial responsibility rating of Excellent or better and financial size category (FSC) of V (greater than $10 million capital surplus) is required, or FSC VIII (greater than $100 million) for non-admitted insurers, unless waived in writing by the City's Risk Manager. Self-insured retention must be approved in writing by the City. Contractors must provide original certificates of insurance and endorsements signed by an authorized insurer representative before any employees perform work on City property, and all subcontractor coverages are subject to the same requirements at no expense to the City. The document includes a signature block where bidders certify their ability to provide the requested insurance coverage.
