About this file
This is a procurement requirements document for industrial process furnace equipment and accessories to support Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The requirement (PR488211) has a due date of July 31, 2026, and falls under NAICS Code 333994 (Industrial Process Furnace and Oven Manufacturing) with a small business size standard of 500 employees.
The procurement specifies three line items from Thermtest Instruments: (1) one TPS-FURNACE-2 Muffle Furnace capable of operating at ambient +5°C to 500°C in air or 750°C in nitrogen, powered by 220V/1ph/50-60Hz with 3000W heater capacity and includes one-year warranty; (2) one 11001P001-00 Muffle Furnace Insert for high-temperature testing under vacuum or low-pressure backfilled conditions with maximum sample size of 100 x 100 x 40 mm and operating temperatures up to 500°C (air) or 750°C (nitrogen); and (3) one TPS-M-DS mica-insulated TPS sensor rated for temperatures up to 750°C/1000°C for use in furnace applications, with a radius of 6.6 mm. The furnace insert requires chilled water (10-20°C), a dry pump, and valves for vacuum operation. The requirement was prepared by Jacob Spradley with Andrew Wereszczak serving as the Technical Point of Contact (TPO).

Thermtest Instruments TPS-FURNACE-2
Muffle Furnace: The furnace comes with software for automatic temperature control and scheduling of measurements. High temperature measurements have never been this easy!
Specifications:
Environment: Air
- Testing in vacuum / Ni optional Temperature Range:
Ambient +5C to 500C (Air) and 750C (Ni) Power Reqs 220V/1ph/50/60 Hz / 20AMP Heater Wattage 3000 Watt Warranty 100% 1 year
* TPS-M Sensors can be used to 500C (Air) and 750C (Ni)
* Requires HT furnace sample holder or furnace vacuum / Ni insert with integrated sample holder. 1 ea
Thermtest Instruments 11001P001-00
Muffle Furnace Insert:
TPS High Temperature Insert for use with the Muffle Furnace option for testing under vacuum or low pressure backfilled conditions.
Specifications:
Maximum sample size: 100 x 100 x 40 mm Maximum temperature: 500C (Air) and 750C (Ni) Environment: Vacuum or low pressure backfilled conditions For use with MP-1 TPS High Temperature Insert for use with the muffle furnace op option for testing under vacuum or low pressure backfilled conditions.
Specifications:
Maximum sample size: 100 x 100 x 40 mm Maximum temperature: 500C (Air) and 750C (Ni) Environment: Vacuum or low pressure backfilled conditions For use with MP-1
* Requires chilled water (10 to 20C), dry pump and valves for vacuum / backfilled operation. 1 ea
Thermtest Instruments TPS-M-DS
TPS-M-DS
Mica insulated TPS Sensor for use at high temperatures in furnace.
Specifications:
Temperature Range: up to 750C/1000C requires Standard or Tube Furnace.
For temperatures above 500C (Nitrogen or Argon atmosphere recommended), the sensor starts to degrade. Above 500C the number of temperatures cycles is estimated at 1 to 5 times, this is dependent on the highest temperature reached (Max 750/1000C).
Radius: 6.6 mm Includes:
Mica TPS Sensor Notes:
* There are several usages which can shorten the sensors life, not covered by warranty. This includes max temperature operation, sharp materials which can indent and cause electrical shortening, as well as rough usage.
** Above 500C, specific heat of the sample may need to be entered for best results. 1 ea
