Part 1 general

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

This system consists of electrical power distribution, lighting, lighting control, lightning protection, fire detection and alarm, security, and telecommunication.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Determination of electrical system requirements shall be the responsibility of the Design Build Contractor (DBC).

The electrical systems for all structures included in this contract shall be designed to conform to the included BLM Codes and Standards List and those listed below:

National Electrical Contractors (NECA) National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS), as applicable.

All electrical materials and equipment shall be UL listed.

Design Requirements:

Electrical system voltage drop shall not exceed 4 percent.

Phases shall be balanced with respect to load.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Enclosures shall meet NEMA Type 1 requirements in dry locations and NEMA Type 3R requirements in wet locations.

All wiring shall be run concealed in all finished spaces.

A megger test shall be performed to determine ground resistance. Ground resistance shall be 25 ohms or less under dry soil conditions.

All conductors shall be copper. Aluminum or copper clad conductors will not be acceptable.

The DBC shall determine the maximum short circuit interrupting rating and withstand ratings of all electrical equipment, including, but not limited to, panelboards and other protective devices provided under this contract. Panelboards, overcurrent protection devices, and other electrical distribution system equipment shall be capable of withstanding and interrupting the maximum available short circuit current (SCC).

Feeder and branch circuit conductors shall be No. 12 AWG minimum.

Maximum number of 20A duplex receptacles per 20A, 120V circuit shall be eight.

Receptacles on opposite sides of common walls shall be offset a minimum of 12 inches on center.

COMPLIANCE VERIFICATION

Specifications, design calculations and drawings shall be submitted during the design process as specified below and as specified in the Design Build Project Scope Paragraph “DB Design Development and Construction Documents”. Compliance with the various codes and design criteria will be determined by a review of the design calculations, specifications, design drawings, construction submittals submitted during construction, and by field inspection. Compliance review is to verify that the DBC is providing systems, products, and/or materials that will satisfy the stated criteria. This review shall not relieve the DBC from responsibility for any errors or omissions nor from responsibility for complying with the requirements of this contract.

SUBMITTALS DURING DESIGN
