About this file

This document is an Agricultural/Wildlife & Habitat Land Lease agreement issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for farming services on state-owned property within the Burning Star State Fish and Wildlife Area located in Jackson County, Illinois. The lease covers approximately 573.75 total acres with a cropping plan detailing the required planting and management of corn, soybean, sunflower, and cover crop fields from 2024 through 2027. The lessee is required to follow specific guidelines for planting, herbicide/pesticide usage, cover crop management, and leaving unharvested crop rows for wildlife. IDNR reserves the right to require the lessee to leave all or a portion of the crops unharvested. Failure to comply may result in termination of the lease.

The lease payments are based on the agreed per-acre rate, and IDNR may provide some materials for the cover crop fields. The lessee must adhere to the cropping plan and all other lease requirements. Non-compliance could lead to termination of the lease agreement.

IDNR may require the Lessee under this cropping plan to leave all or a certain portion of the crops in the field standing without being harvested. If Lessee fails to comply with this requirement, IDNR will receive the rent per acre from the Lessee as set forth in Section 2.1.2 for each acre that the Lessee harvested in violation of the cropping plan. Non-adherence to cropping plan instructions may be cause for termination of the farm lease.
