BLM Field Offices are responsible for the determination of herd area and herd management area boundaries.
Users of this data may contact the appropriate administrative Field Office to determine if the map data is current.
Herd Management Areas (HMA) may be established in those Herd Areas, within which wild horses and burros can be managed for the long-term. HMAs are designated through the Land Use Planning process for the maintenance of wild horse and burro herds.
